Children With [Diabetes] Look Forward To Obama's Expected Lifting Of Ban On Stem Cell Research

New York, NY (AHN) - President Barack Obama's expected lifting of the ban on stem cell research Monday is good news for those with Type 1 juvenile diabetes and their parents.

That's because researchers think that embryonic stem cells could be capable of replicating the pancreatic cells that produce insulin. When pancreatic cells are transplanted they effectively cure Type 1 diabetics. But with donor organs in short supply there are not enough donor pancreases to meet demand.

About 1.5 million Americans have Type 1 diabetes, but there are only about 6,000 donor pancreases each year.

Although there is a debate about the ethics of embryonic stem cell research, some proponents argue that it is unethical not to use stem cell research in an attempt to find cures for diseases such as Type 1 juvenile diabetes, Parkinson's disease and others.

I read recently that in one country (perhaps Israel), they are no longer doing these embryonic cell techniques because the were found to cause tumors in the recipients (as the article said, “sometimes deadly or devastating tumors”).

But that’s ok. Anything to forward the cause of cloning and abortion, which is what this is really all about.

Bullshit. You could transplant pancreatic cells until you're blue in the face. The recipient's body is STILL going to wipe them out because type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease wherein the body turns on itself. Transplanting won't stop the body from doing that.

I think this issue is the single best example of the mendacious way in which the Media frames issues.

They seek to kill a child because they want to help a child.
Research on embryonic stem cells HAS been going on throughout Bush's 8 years, but you'd never know that from news coverage.
Embryonic stem cell research has not resulted in any medical breakthroughs, and yet it gets all the coverage.
Adult stem cell research has resulted in a great many breakthroughs, but it gets very little coverage.
Embryonic stem cells have a very nasty way of causing cancer in the receiver, but you'd never know that.

Incredibly twisted coverage of this topic. I'm convinced that medicine is not the focus. Kids with diabetes? The media doesn't REALLY care about that. Rationalizing the legal killing of children as a way to prop up Roe v Wade? Oh, yeah: that's the reason why embryonic stem cell research is championed. Abortion is pretty much the only thing the Democrats really care about. They are desperate to engage in child sacrifice as a sort of religious ritual. This is an old, old sickness.

“Why do they keep chasing these embryonic stem cell theories when stem cells from other sources have proven to be far superior?”

Actually, it's not even subtle. With the American people becoming more and more anti-abortion; the abortion industry is fearing for its livelihood. They need to create a demand for the “product” they produce that will be overwhelmingly important in the eyes of the average citizen; thereby ensuring their survival!

They are looking forward to it up to a point. If and when they produce new treatments from the stem cell research, the devaluing of life will not end. The Obama administration will do a cost-benefit analysis and may very well decide that the very sick children are not worth burdening the socialized healthcare system. As a result, they will refuse to offer the treatments anyway.

They want to “help” science and dispose of “excess” population at the same time. In the liberal mind, this is killing two birds with one stone.

The war on humans - waged by a PUTUS who feels it’s ok to let newborns die if “mommy” wants the baby dead. What a monster . . . death to all embryos, fetuses, unborn, newborn, infirmed, and aged . . . ala HITLER . . . this from a monster who’s eating $100+ steaks flown in from Japan and partying with Hollyweird’s elite.

What the hell did America do?

Proponents of using taxes to fun ESCR say that millions of frozen embryos are "going to be wasted" if they are not detroyed in order to support ESCR research.

Question:

Have the proponents (such as Obama) of using fed funds for ESCR PROMISED to only use frozen embryos that are "leftovers" from fertility clinics?
Or are they really planning on creating more embryos in order to destroy them?

“Why do they keep chasing these embryonic stem cell theories when stem cells from other sources have proven to be far superior? It’s maddening! “

because it supports their culture of death.

Exactly. My nephew has this type of diabetes. And no, he’s a skinny little thing, so no weight issues here.

His Mom is a doctor, and she is furious over this issue. She does NOT want embryos harvested, even if it could possibly find a cure for her own child. (Which she doubts, anyway.)

She’s one of my Heroes in life. She’s a MOM and a DOCTOR and SHE understands that when a human female is pregnant, it’s a human BABY in there, not just a glob of cells to exploit. I have no medical degree, and even I can understand THAT, LOL!

Oh they care. They think that anyone less than perfect is a drag on society and should be euthanized.

Most likely killing children to KILL other children as embryonic stem cells have proven to be ineffective at best and cancerous tumor producing, at worst.

That's because the real issue is abortion.

What rubbish.

The latest U.S. News and World Report had this article by Bernadine Healy, MD: Why Embryonic Stem Cells Are Obsolete.

(Healy is U.S.News & World Report's health editor and author of the magazine’s On Health column, and the former head of the National Institutes of Health, the American Red Cross, and the College of Medicine and Public Health at Ohio State University.)

Here's the money quote:

"In fact, during the first six weeks of Obama's term, several events reinforced the notion that embryonic stem cells, once thought to hold the cure for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and diabetes, are obsolete."

The push for strip-mining non-consenting human subjects (including our already-begotten children) for cells, tissues and organs is strictly a question of hubris: certain researchers saying "We want to do it because we can, to show that OUR projects are never again to be limited by ethics or by considerations of mere human dignity."

Hocndoc, please give us the latest so we can fight this thing.

” maybe they should grow those embryos into babies, then take their pancreases and other body parts”

unfortunately that is already done to some extent. Parts of aborted babies are frequently sold. Its even possible to order specific parts harvested (their term) in specific ways.

Its part of the abortion industry and is mostly used in research.

The Chinese have solved that problem. They just harvest the organs from political prisoners in the laogai.

Thats because its a moral issue and not a medical issue.

These guys are telling lies about beta cells. There are NO stem cells for beta cells. Beta cells apparantly reproduce themselves.

As far as "donors" are concerned, once the method is developed for causing beta cells to reproduce, you need ONLY ONE beta cell.

Embryonic stem cells will continue to be of no use ~ primarily because they are not beta cells, nor has there been any successful production of a beta cell from an ESC.
