The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'
Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.
The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.
"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."
Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."
Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

Palin spokesman Bill McAllister says he doesn't know and doesn't plan to inquire. He says it's up to the governor to respond if she wants to.

Yeah seriously I can care less if it’s true or not. Who cares, so they broke up, if they did, yeah, and..this is an issue why? Because it shows that Sarah’s family has problems like we all do..wait, and Obama’s past is squeaky clean right..yeah, let’s see what’s in Obama’s closet..besides the crap the media won’t reveal(Ayers, Rezco, Farrakan, Wright, etc etc)
Calm down it's just I remember what it's like to be a 17-18 yr old man-- there's just too many women to make your head turn. Near impossible to stay faithful at that age.

I’ll accept apologies from the defenders of Levi and Bristol’s “true love and commitment” on this or any related thread.
That said, it would not surprise me. Once they did not get married right away, I figured the odds of them ever doing so were not good.
But, the baby still needs a father. But for now, grandpa has been filling in, and can continue to do so.
Grandpas, and sometimes Great Uncles, do those things you know.
This girl is not married. Therefore, the father is not AS importantas if he were her husband, and had already made a lifetime commitment to her and the child.
She is very mature for her age—she has grown up fast. The baby has a huge, loving family surrounding him.
Many children are being raised by their mothers in the homes of their grandparents. These extended families are usually very happy, at least the ones I know.

Everytime Bristol shoots off her mouth, Palin’s social conservatism looks just a little more “naive,” as she put it.

Great. But you know what a baby needs? A mom and a dad.
It’s been too long that the Pro-Life movement has cheered when a girl makes a mistake then keeps the baby.
When do we start saying “the baby would be better off with a mom, a dad and two sets of Grandparents” instead of “Grandma and Grandpa will raise the kid”

you know, if the govt wasn’t spending zillions of dollars on handouts for people who don’t really need it, we would have more money for the truly poor who are simply incapable of caring for themselves.
