Russia weighs Cuba, Venezuela bases: report
Breitbart ^ | 3/14/09 | staff

Posted on 03/14/2009 8:59:09 AM PDT by pissant

Russia could use bases for its strategic bombers on the doorstep of the United States in Cuba and Venezuela to underpin long-distance patrols in the region, a senior air force officer said Saturday.

"This is possible in Cuba," General Anatoly Zhikharev, chief of the Russian air force's strategic aviation staff, told the Interfax-AVN military news agency.

The comments were the latest signal that Moscow intends to project its military capability in far-flung corners of the globe despite a tight defence budget and hardware that experts consider in many respects outdated.

Zhikharev indicated that Russia was looking only at occasional use of the facilities -- not setting up permanent bases in the region.

He noted that the Venezuelan constitution prohibited establishment of military bases of foreign states on Venezuelan territory and described the Russian possibile use of the facility there as "we land, we complete the flight, we take off."

Zhikharev said Cuba had a several air bases equipped with the long runways needed by the heavy bombers and said the facilities there were "entirely acceptable" for use by the Russian aircraft during long-distance patrols.

Who cares? Let’s rather mock Gov Palin for suggesting that Russian bombers and bullying are a problem we have to stand up to./MSM

Undermine South/Central America and it is really the end of the current political and military landscape.

When China really builds up here as well, we are in deep deep trouble.

Combine these events with the incredible debt coming due when these bonds mature, along with the equally incredible dumbing down of the citizenry via a completely useless educational system (sic) and it probably signals the end.

Taunting from overseas is one thing, but this can’t be allowed to ever happen.

Obama feels nothing in his heart for America. imo

It's time we tell Russia any such move is equated to an act of war. If they don't like it we should send a few dozen cruise missiles to Hugo as a gift from the American people. In fact we could send them directly to his military bases so that the people of Venezuela save on shipping and handling charges. We of course won't but it is time that we did.

I don’t understand. Aren’t we all one, big, happy soviet collective now? America no longer requires “liberation”. (Didn’t Putin get the memo?)

Report: Cuba, Venezuela Could Host Russian Bombers

Russian Tupolev 95 Bear Long Range Bomber

Report: Cuba, Venezuela Could Host Russian Bombers

The Russkies did not go away just because Obama was elected. Even though GWB 'looked into Putin's eyes,' he is very still dangerous. KGB thugs now control Russia. Vlad Putin is a $$$$ Billionaire and an energy baron -- a true oligarch. He cares only about world domination.

Want to read more reports _____ ? Click the image above OR check my freeper page. There is an audio link posted there that discusses suitcase nukes. These nukes were recently disarmed in Los Angeles and a Midwestern city. The La La Land bomb was discovered in the basement of a large financial institution. 'Nuff said here.

Nations, just like business and people, are constantly evaluating their Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats and Strengths to advance their agendas. Nations like business and people either go up or down, they never stay the same for long. If not up then down.

You always exploit the weakness and confusion of your competitor and that is just what is being done to the US now.

The greatest crisis is probably ahead of us still.

Someone on this site asked me, when I opined that our first mistake was to repeal the premise of votes for landed persons only, just who I thought should not vote....the answer...ANYONE WHO DOES NOT PAY TAXES, ANYONE WHO RECEIVES MORE THAN HE PAYS INTO THE TREASURY. Too late now.

The TU-95 is an old design but the airframes are fairly new.

They are dangerous to us when they have to fly over the North Pole to probe our airspace. On our doorstep, the potential is truly menacing.

Ronald Reagan warned the Soviets not to base MiG-23 fighters in Cuba (they blinked). Now, their main strategic bombers will be sitting on the Cuban unsinkable aircraft carrier.

I mean, geez, Jimmah Carter was in office nearly three years before the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. Apparently Moscow now feels they need not wait as long to act aggressively. Wonder why.

The sad thing is that a lot of the people who voted for the Traitor in Chief are actually quite well off and do pay taxes (or at any rate, are liable for them). I happened to be reading a fashion magazine while sitting in a waiting room, and the entire issue - written, published and read by affluent people - was a non-stop cover-to-cover gush about Bambi and Eva Braun... er, I mean Michelle Ma Belle.

The problem is that we have entire generations now that have been taught by a leftist, Freudianized professoriat to adopt the view of the underclass - ranging from the gruntings of rap to the latest b*tch-beating that appears in People magazine - as the authentic expression and understanding of life. You can’t expect much out of people like that.

Russia is just probing right now just trying to see what we will do. The old bombers are no real threat so far. If Obama does noting, Putin will turn up the heat. If we do not drill and try to power the US with windmills, Putin will be our new supplier of oil. With Russia at the gas pump, expect more actions as he twists the tail of the American Pig. We could be in for a long ride with Obama in charge.

I can foresee the day that the Russians and the Chinese will fight over the dying corpse of the U S. Since the Chinese now have a mortgage on the US the Russians do not want to be left out of dividing up the proceeds of what remains of nation.

Oh SHIT.

Here we go folks.

Anyone here think Bambi has the balls to stand up against Putin?

I am not at all hopeful.

I agree, this is a great big huge Trial Balloon, but you can BET that its a serious one. Russia is going to see what Bambi does. For certain, this is not something Russia would have ever tried while President Bush was in Office.

I don’t think Bambi has the nuts to do a damn thing. Considering he is a communist himself, he may just welcome Putin right in.
