Boeing unveils upgraded F-15 Silent Eagle with fifth-generation features

Boeing today unveiled a new F-15 prototype aimed at the international market with such "fifth-generation" add-ons as radar absorbent coatings, internal weapons carriage and integrated digital avionics, plus featuring a distinctive V-tail.

Improving the fourth generation fighter’s profile on air-to-air radar is Boeing’s key goal for the F-15SE, which the company plans to offer to five foreign countries with an estimated market for 190 orders.

Radar absorbent materials added to leading edges are designed to soften the F-15SE’s head-on radar signature. Canting both horizontal stabilizers by 15 degrees is intended to reduce radar returns to the side.

You realize, of course, that that speech would be more effective if delivered whilst wearing a neon pink tutu and waving a white flag, don’t you?.....:)

Abathar,
I live on an airpark west about 90 miles south of the Cape.
A couple of shuttle launches ago I took off with my son in my RV6Aand flew to Sebastian, about 60 miles north of here while climbing to 10,000 feet and we watched as it toook off, came up and flew by like an angel.
WAAAY cool.

How close could you have gotten before the CAP intercepted you?

Spent my summers on Merritt Island and Cocoa Beach, got to see two of them launch.

My friend who works at the Cape sent me that photo, he got it in an email from the pilot who took it.

I would love to be airborne and see the launch, that would be great.

Good looking plane. I was really scared they would pick the Hideous Boeing plane for the F-35.

Flight testing starts first quarter 2010.

I’d expect to see production in late 2011 or early 2012.

Since ZERO is bent on wasting the investment to date in the F-22

and since our pilots are flying F-15s that have been used harder and longer than intended

and since our pilots sometimes worry more about the integrity of their aircraft than the enemy

forget export and let’s build them for US.

Oh, I forgot...no money for things we really need...just for glory roads, bailouts of millionaires, trinkets for the natives and PORK for POLITICIANS...AND CUTTING MEDICAL BENEFITS FOR TROOPS INJURED IN BATTLE!!!!

That was one good series of books. I have met Dale when he lived in Incline Village. Nice guy. Do not where he is now after his tax problems.

One could do the same kind of things with this aircraft as well.

"All except for the hybrid version."

Why would he do such. The Raptor is miles ahead of the Competition.

This is madness!

Incline Village at North Shore Lake Tahoe? I used to live there briefly in 1988 then I moved on down to South Shore, I wonder, if thats the case I too may have met him, many years ago I vaguely remember talking about modifying or upgrading old aircraft with someone, but then again I still do that.

Not trying to get any attention here you know.
