State officials say Minnesota is working on a pilot program to test the idea of charging drivers for each mile they drive. Other states around the country are considering a vehicle mileage tax, as revenues from the gas tax are expected to decline.

T-Paw has been hanging out with Will Stegar waaayyyy too much.
We all know about the ‘RATS but it appears as though all the so-called “republicans” have also become taxaholics.
More reason for American voters to clean house and vote all these POS out of office.
Both Pawlenty and Crist can already seriously take their names out of the running for the ‘12 GOP Presidency! In fact, no more RINOs, ever again!
Well, why the hell not? “We have the technology.”
Good frickin GRIEF. What a worthless RINO POS
This will go nationwide....MA has been pondering this for awhile.....
Undoubtedly there will be some kinks to be worked out in such a system - but who can object to a method which tries to take advantage of recently developed technology to closely match use of a public facility and payment for the maintenance of that facility? The fuels tax is not a perfect approximation of use (i.e., wear and tear on road infrastructure). It’s not a bad one. Now that actual miles driven is technologically feasible - who’s to say it cannot be a better basis?
Atsa big 10-4 onat, ExTexasRedhead!!!
yep...
Thanks for the ping, rockabyebaby......
AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Call, call now!
In fact, no more RINOs, ever again!
Well said. I swore after I held my nose and pulled the lever for McCain - NEVER AGAIN!
I think you're assuming the gas tax is going away somehow. It's not. This is an additional tax that would be levied by the state on top of Fed Gas tax and on top of any state gas tax.
That's the first rule of Democrats - taxes don't go away - ever.
Look, idiots. If you are going to tax anything, then tax hours on the engine. Far easier. Far fairer. Less big brotherish.
Why do things the hard way?
I have yet seen where anyone has not asked the obvious question. What are you doing with the federal and state tax already assessed?
In Wisconsin, Doyle has raided the highway fund to apply the monies to the general fund. Is that what the fed govt has done also? Is the mileage tax replace the funds looted from the highway accounts? We are sheep.
That way you may have a chance of winning.
just check the odometer at the end of the year during a yearly inspection...
I don’t trust any administration with GPS in our cars not using it to track us.
Or, “Stupider than a Gas Tax”
Live it, breath it, understand it, and die with it.
Taxes NEVER go away!
The best case scenario is they don't increase as rapidly as anticipated.
