Help me out here folks Could he really be this stupid????

Now Obama has insulted French President Sarkozy!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh no! Obama sent a letter to Chirac, saying he looks forward to working with him the next four years. Le Figaro, French newspaper is horrified at the faux pas. Doesn't Obama ever consult his staff before acting? Sarkozy is the President there! It's like Sarko writing to George Bush and saying he looks forward to working with him. Chirac is the FORMER president.

Here is a translation of the letter in Le Figaro:

Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !

Barack Obama does not seem to know that in May 2007, French voters elected Nicolas Sarkozy to the French presidency, to succeed Jacques Chirac who had been president for twelve years.

Yesterday, we told you Sarkozy is irritated because Mister O. refuses to tell him if he will accept to meet him personally in the next few months.

Strangely, we have just learnt this surprising piece of news :

Barack Obama wrote a letter to Jacques Chirac to tell him about his desire to "work with him" for the next four years ! In a letter described by Chirac as "very nice," Obama wrote, "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world." The use of the word "peace" was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed.

This revelation was made by the online edition of the daily Le Figaro on Thursday.

Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !

So, if I understand well, Mister O., who has already despised Gordon Brown, behaving with him as if he did not know he is Prime Minister of Britain, does not even know the name of the French president.

I wonder if someone had told him, when he came to France last summer, that the man he met was NOT Jacques Chirac !

In any case, for Sarko, the blow must be terrible : he has tried to persuade Obama to invite him in Washington for months, and now he learns that his predecessor might soon be Obama's guest at the White House before him ! http://europumas.over-blog.com/article-29271371.html edited to add the original french article: http://www.lefigaro.fr/actualites/20...es-chirac-.php

If indeed that is the case, it is still a seriously affront to Sarkozy, you don't go contacting the former president before you contact the head of that country. ESPECIALLY when Sarkozy has tried to contact him for months.

“It was written to Chirac and his foundation... and no mention when that letter was written.”

I speak French. I’ve read the Figaro link...it says exactly what’s being translated.

Since he talks about working with Chirac (for the next four years)...it has to be fairly recent.

I lived in Europe for seven years. When Sarkozy won and actually had “ensemble” on the podium (meaning “together”) I had never thought I would see the day when the French would lay down their unreasonable (and probably grounded in the humiliation they suffered in two world wars) animus and snottiness towards the USA.

It gave me faith.

This is a slap in the face to a nation that had finally come around.

I’m so pithed I could thpit nails.

LOL!

Next we'll have Hillary stop by to present Chirac with a "reset" button that says "Up Yours!".

I didn't believe this story was true until I checked out a few links posted here. I read the French article and the translation is correct. I can't believe this man is such an idiot.

He shouldn't leave his teleprompter at any time, though sometimes he even has a hard time making sense with the benefit of the teleprompter!

So I made a little image depicting our great leader in one of his moments of need:

Not just that madam, I am sure Chirac does not reside at the President's place of residence. And wherever he resides, the communication reached him, did not go to the office of President in France.

I saw it and that letter is probably taken out of context. It was written to Chirac and his foundation... and no mention when that letter was written

You are correct. It has been taken out of context, and it does not help Conservatives when they do this. This was a diplomatic faux pas, but not mistaken identity of the French president. Limbaugh does this type of thing all the time and it grates me no end. There is enough to get people worked up about without stretching the truth!

By the way, the letter was picked up on Thursday by Le Figaro, but our media is silent, as usual!

I may sound crazy, but I almost wonder if Hillary is trying to undermine him... there was the reset button, the video tape incident (and plastic helicopters) and now this. Not one of these things should have happened if the State Departement was doing it’s job — not that any idiot, much less TOTUS should know who the President of France is — especially when you freaking met the guy last summer!

Looks like Obama isn’t the only incompetent individual, but his whole administration is incompetent as well.

Confidentiel : Barack Obama a écrit à Jacques Chirac

Barack Obama a écrit à Jacques Chirac

Translation please! My French isn't up to this.

Thank you for that !

I don't personally hold any animosity toward Europe. The EU absolutely, but not the countries or the people.
