AUSTIN — Texans would be allowed to stow their guns and ammo inside their locked cars or trucks while at work and parked on employer property under a controversial bill passed Wednesday by the state Senate.

The Senate voted 31-0 to prohibit employers from enforcing restrictions against employees possessing a legally owned handgun or ammunition inside a locked vehicle while in a company parking lot. Firearms and ammo must be stored out of sight.

That's FEDERAL property.......The only way Texas can control that property by seceding....which may begin to get traction......

Well....there is a loophole as big as Texas. Employers that fence the parking area and have controlled access, can still prohibit firearms in vehicles.....another fight for another day.

Nope. Military establishments have their own law. Weapons on the campus would be at the discretion of the base commander.

Doubt it. I’ve seen them pull seats out of cars while conducting searches when the dogs smell something funny.

My local TX rep told me that, during a discussion on whether or not to put metal detectors at TX capitol entrances, the discussion of how to deal with guns in the gallery came up. The rep sitting beside him said,

"Let 'em try it."

"They better be ready for a helluva lot of return fire from the floor, though!"

Yep, gotta love Texas!!!

I have stated my position on this many times:

1) Your vehicle should be considered an extension of your "castle".

2) The employers' property rights end at the point where your tires touch his parking lot.

3) Concealing the contents of your vehicle simply makes good tactical and security sense.
