WASHINGTON—U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) today co-sponsored the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill (H.R. 197). This legislation would protect the rights of licensed firearm permit holders by allowing them to carry firearms across the country without a confusing patchwork system.
"The National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill recognizes that those who have a valid state-issued concealed firearms permit should not have to forfeit their safety when traveling," said Tiahrt. "Not only does this bill protect the rights of concealed firearm permit holders, it also maintains the right of states to issue concealed weapons permits as they desire. As a mobile society, legal firearm permit carriers should be able to travel from state to state and exercise their fundamental right to self defense—this legislation ensures that."
Specifically, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill would allow any person with a valid concealed firearm carrying permit or license, issued by a state, to carry a concealed firearm in any state, as follows:
* In states that issue concealed firearm permits, a state’s laws governing where concealed firearms may be carried would apply within its borders. * In states that do not issue carry permits, a federal "bright-line" standard would permit carrying in places other than police stations; courthouses; public polling places; meetings of state, county, or municipal governing bodies; schools; passenger areas of airports; and certain other locations. * The bill applies to D.C., Puerto Rico and U.S. territories. * It would not create a federal licensing system; it would require the states to recognize each others’ carry permits, just as they recognize drivers’ licenses and carry permits held by armored car guards.
I am now completely against any Federal moves into what is a States Rights issue, it allows the federal government to further entangle itself, usurping State power.
After a few years on the books and funding to the states (= Leash) you will probably need a Federal Inter-State CCW Permit... for continuity and safety of course.

This was years ago, but when I was a young Captain in the USAF, I was a legal resident of Florida and had a permit. My attitude was, “I’m on active duty defending my country, I have a permit from my state of legal residence so I can carry this weapon wherever I please.”
Years later, I was stopped in California because I had Florida plates on my vehicle and the CHP officer said, “I’ve seen you around here before. Why don’t you have California plates on your vehicle?” I had a loaded 12 ga on the back seat, but as soon as I showed my military ID, he thanked me and drove off.
2nd amendment says my right to bear arms shall never be infringed. What is it about conceal carry that’s so appealing? Its infringing on my right to carry by making me get a license... Eff that.

RKBA advocates should not pursue this type of legislation under any circumstances.

Once we create a federal licensing database... it is the thin edge of the wedge that will constantly be expanded.

This is one of those ideas that looks good on the surface, but when you pull back the layers... Not so good. ;-(
We need to get the word out to all 2A groups, family and friends to contact Reps and pull support for this bill.
It's just a little ol' single digit amendment to the constitution.

What we need is for states to secede from the union!
Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records and Judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.
Yes indeed we do!!! Be nice if we ever had a President who, right after the swearing in ceremony, would immediately declare that all citizens are now part of the Militia, and have the duty to ‘bear arms’,as stated in the 2A!!!
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
I rest my case! That there should be no right to carry laws and that the American Citizen is guaranteed to carry anywhere they deem fit and that congress or judicial should have a right to infringe on the 2 amendment!

So.....I here in the Illinois People's State, one of the last two holdouts with no CCW (< disdain>"how twentieth centure"< /disdain>), if I get a Florida, Utah, Pennsylvania, or whatever permit, I'm good to go in Illinois?
Or, out of state folks have more rights than I do?
I think it is time we enforce the Constitution.

If all else fails then that rather extreme measure most certainly as a last resort.
I would think it preferable for all efforts towards maintaining the Union before such actions towards dissolution of 230 years of our Republic.
