KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A gun ban seems to be on the minds of many these days.
Many viewers have started to notice a shortage of guns and ammunition. And stores all over Kalamazoo say concealed weapons are flying off the shelves. Most blame the change in politics in Washington, D.C.
The FBI performed more than a million background checks in the three months after the election than it did the previous year. Stores in Kalamazoo say they're trying to keep up.
"These aren't the general style tactical weapons this one's a little different," said Gander Mountain employee, Matt Wing.
It's not surprising to Wing that customers come in looking for semiautomatic weapons.
"This is one of the main weapons people are concerned they're not going to be able to use. This style the black rifles," said Wing.
It's an assault weapon and so many who want to own one are concerned President Barack Obama's administration could impose a new ban on some semiautomatic weapons.
But Wing says it's not just the big weapons. The small Ruger pistol is flying off the shelves too. And ammunition for all guns is short at most stores around the country.
"With the elections a lot of people are coming in to buy ammo thinking it's going to disappear and that they're not going to have them anymore," said Wing.
In fact some who sell guns say they haven't seen a run on guns and ammo since in 40 years. Owners telling us it's awfully difficult to tell customers they have to wait days, perhaps weeks to get a bullet.
"Sometimes I can get it in a couple of days or maybe in a couple of weeks depending on the ammunition. It really depends," said Wing.
And experts say other concerns fueling gun and ammunition sales are the faltering economy and the side-effect of an increase in crime.
How do they find them?
Ha ha! I was thinking the same thing.
LOL!
You know, I was wondering the same thing. If it’s out in the open, how is it a “concealed” weapon?
They must mean small weapons.
I’m so glad I FReep! 8)
I went to a local Dick’s sporting goods and they had no shortage of anything... are these hyped up stories to detract from an Obama gun grab?
How come I picture Janene Grafolo wrote that
LOL.
Customer: "I'll take 10, please."
Whippersnapper Journalism Graduate behind the counter:"Bullets?"
If things go bad (or should I say worse?) with the economy, it’s going to be a LONG HOT SUMMER in the “Land of the Free”...
The cupboards are bare at Dick’s and Gander Mountain in NE Penna. Cabelas is backordered on 90% of all popular ammo grades.

Another case of lazy reporting. If it is a BLACK rifle, then it must be an assault weapon. Could this possibly be just a wee bit racist? (sarc on/off)
Silly Kalamazoo presstitute skills aside .......Gotta say if I were CCI, Winchester, Black Hills etc .......I would have built a second or third production line by now and cashed in on this panic !
Even local LEO’s & FLEA’s have stopped quarterly qualification range days ............ammo is just not being made or what ??
I wonder how Obama feels knowing that he has been the cause of the greatest rush to buy guns and ammunition in the history of mankind. I wonder what the sneaky little bitch is going to try to do about it. His last attempt, the scrapping of .223 military brass, was pretty lame.
How long is it going to take to get the rest of the cartridge?
I must remember to wear a hard hat if I go into one of those talking gun stores.
For what its worth, just went to Barnes and Noble and bought “Atlas Shrugged” -— but they were back ordered on Levin's book and didn't expect to be “ahead of the waiting list” for a few weeks!
