KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A gun ban seems to be on the minds of many these days.
Many viewers have started to notice a shortage of guns and ammunition. And stores all over Kalamazoo say concealed weapons are flying off the shelves. Most blame the change in politics in Washington, D.C.
The FBI performed more than a million background checks in the three months after the election than it did the previous year. Stores in Kalamazoo say they're trying to keep up.
"These aren't the general style tactical weapons this one's a little different," said Gander Mountain employee, Matt Wing.
It's not surprising to Wing that customers come in looking for semiautomatic weapons.
"This is one of the main weapons people are concerned they're not going to be able to use. This style the black rifles," said Wing.
It's an assault weapon and so many who want to own one are concerned President Barack Obama's administration could impose a new ban on some semiautomatic weapons.
But Wing says it's not just the big weapons. The small Ruger pistol is flying off the shelves too. And ammunition for all guns is short at most stores around the country.
"With the elections a lot of people are coming in to buy ammo thinking it's going to disappear and that they're not going to have them anymore," said Wing.
In fact some who sell guns say they haven't seen a run on guns and ammo since in 40 years. Owners telling us it's awfully difficult to tell customers they have to wait days, perhaps weeks to get a bullet.
"Sometimes I can get it in a couple of days or maybe in a couple of weeks depending on the ammunition. It really depends," said Wing.
And experts say other concerns fueling gun and ammunition sales are the faltering economy and the side-effect of an increase in crime.
When they flap their wings as they take flight.
Break into my house and I will give you one at 1,150 fps.
Seems like a good time to easily let citizens have belt fed, machine guns, light mortars, ....you know...to...ah...um....relive the load on hard pressed handgun makers...er...for children carbon footprint polar bears.
Right? (just try’n to help out here).
There is absolutely no 7.62 x 39 anywhere within a 50 mile radius of where I live. I know, because I check In person on a regular basis.
.38 Special is completely gone off of most store shelves. I was at Gander Mountain yesterday and they had (1) box of .38 SPL 158 Gr. LRN. They wanted $49.99 for it! (I was buying 50 round boxes of .38 SPL for $17-$18 just two months ago. (Luckily, on the bottom shelf I found a “Mega Pack” of 250 rounds of Remington UMC 130 Gr. Metal Jacketed for $99.99)
The last few boxes of 7.62 x 39 that I found a few weeks ago cost me $10 per 20-round box for Bear Silver. This same ammo just 6-9 months ago would probably have sold for about $3 per box.
People are stocking up before a storm.
Today I was in WallyMart they are wiped out of anything pistol. Some 22 and ample game loads of shotgun in 12 and 20 ga, no 00 buck or even anything larger than #6 shot..

Yeah, well, if people think the shortage is bad now, just wait until the shooting starts.
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
Well aware of that.....thus my question.
Maybe they are running three shifts and everything is being scooped up...
Gotta be a bunch of marketing guys at the manufacturers that are having heart attacks seeing such demand and slow production.
I bought what I need over a year ago based on my usage for the last twenty years. If it gets to something other than hunting, I'm going to be too old to crawl around and eat bugs unless it starts soon.
God Save the Republic!
Agree I have enough on the shelf to get my Elk and Mulie each year till I am to old to hunt... Gets real bad I will just use the compound bow’s etc ..... Just have to curtail my range time and competition till this POS administration is voted out and or jailed (pipe dream) !
Stay safe Harry !
Not everyone. There are some out there practicing.
A year ago I would hear some shooting every 2nd or 3rd weekend. Some were 10 to 15 shot strings of rapid fire.
This year every weekend firing going on in 3 directions. To the south it is too flat, too many houses for safe shooting.
No long strings of firing this year. Double tap or a double tap and a head shot is the norm.
I maybe wrong, but it sounds like some serious practice to me.

Agree !
Think I’d put up surplus tents and hire guards to run 10 or 20 more lines right now !
Agree .......as I stated here on this thread my weekly range day is now quarterly range day till the situation and EBR BS games stop.
Ammo, reloading supplies are stored .......I won’t pay these prices they seek and get right now.
Going bow hunting this fall ..........:o)
Stores here in the Madistan area have plenty of guns and ammo on the shelves.
