Demand for many types of ammunition is far outstripping manufacturers' ability to keep up, according to two West Virginia gun shop owners.

So far in 2009, Spring Hill Rod & Gun in South Charleston has sold more than 1,000 cases of ammunition - more than a typical year's worth, owner Dan Kessel said.

Bob Wojcieszak Spring Hill Rod & Gun employee Terry Finney shows the store's most popular rounds, .45 Auto, .40 S&W and 9mm. So far in 2009, the South Charleston shop has sold more than 1,000 cases of ammunition, more than a typical year's worth. "There is such a backlog that I can't keep certain types on the shelf," he said

Went to our gunshow this weekend. It comes to town about 6 times per year. It was so crowded, there wasn’t even elbow room. Most of the ammo was sold out in the first hour of the show. Firearms prices were considerably higher than their usual gunshow premium.

My son and I went to the local gun range Saturday night and we had to wait over an hour to get a shot-slot. 20 slots and they were all booked up.The range master said that it’s been nuts these last few weeks. People are mad and arming themselves. Gun sales are through the roof and ammo is flying of the shelves.

Ive encountered nothing but trust from LEO for law abiding firearm owners.I was told specifically, it makes the job easier.
Im sure there is always bad apples and i was told that just because we are buddies, dont expect the same attitudes if I were pulled over in say ..oh...some city cop in Chicago whos having a bad day.
If I were a city cop, or in a high meth area, Id think three or four times before approaching a stopped vehicle, so their reservation is totally understandable.

I’m going for a pistol this week, another rifle and all the ammo I can afford for all we have.

Worse comes to worse, I’ll protect my food and medicine supply.

do you know how Walmart has been in stocking 12 guage buckshot? They usually have a good bit of that, but I haven’t seen any.

Went to our gunshow this weekend. ... Most of the ammo was sold out in the first hour of the show.

Same here, I couldn't find any .45 ACP ammo or any reloading supplies.

I’m FINALLY getting a handgun in the next week or so, only to find out that there’s no 9mm ammo anywhere.

That's correct. Share your enthusiasm for guns with your good LEO friends. However, word to the wise, no one else, cops in particular, don't really need to know what you own in firearms.

i see it as a sign that people are very worried because there is something very wrong with america. When word on the street is that a shit hit the fan scenario is imminent, you better sit up and take notice.

That depends on where you are. Every Walmart should have plenty of birdshot (7 1/2 and 8 shot) out on the shelves. Buckshot is usually harder to find, though Walmart usually carries 15-shell boxes of Remington and Winchester 00.

In rather blue Northern Virginia, the only ammunition Walmart actually has is birdshot. .22LR bricks come in from time to time but are generally bought immediately.

"The following is a public service announcement."

Here's my tip of the month: there is still a great pistol and ammo deal out there waiting for you. If you have waited too long to arm up, or if you want one more, look at the excellent milsurp CZ-52 pistol and 7.62X25 Tokarev ammo.

You can get a CZ-52 for about $200 at any gun show or at many gun stores. The ammo can be had for as low as 11 cents a bullet in any quantity you want. Extra mags are from $12 to $20 each.

The milsurp ammo is full metal jacket, firing an 85gr bullet at 1,600fps. These will go through car doors, kevlar helmets, kevlar vests etc like an icepick through butter. OTOH, they will also go through one bad guy and maybe hit a good guy behind him.

However, you can buy hollowpoints ("Wolf Gold" with brass shells) for about $19/50, or half the price of comparable 9mm JHPs. My test "Wolf Gold" JHP ammo expanded to .60 caliber, the same as my test 9mm JHPs.

So for $400, you could buy a CZ-52, 1,500 rounds of assorted ammo, and a few extra mags. OR, you could buy about 2/3s of a "brand name" pistol, and no ammo.

It's just a thought. This is a great bargain. The ammo is cheap and plentiful at all of the internet catalog sites. Don't wait, the libtards will soon slam the door on foreign gun and ammo imports, and the prices will go way up.

Another benefit of this pistol is that it is very accurate, with very fine sights. WIth this flat-shooting ammo, you can hit at 100 yards with ease. Downsides are brittle firing pins (buy a spare, and don't dry fire) and a decocking function that you should not trust. Just lower the SA hammer like a 1911. The safety works like a 1911, so if you are used to 1911s, it will be very easy to use the CZ-52

Obama has got to be the best guns and ammo salesman ever.

You got that right! I pray the ammo companies are adding second and third shifts to keep up with demand. This has got to be a bright spot in the current economy.

I fully expect ammo prices to go higher.
