Forget the economy, war, poverty and substandard education -- the troops in the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are spending time worrying about TMZ and Twitter.
A spokesman in Pelosi's office confirmed the Speaker's Director of New Media sent an email to Democratic press secretaries warning them that TMZ is sniffing around the Hill, asking congressmen about Twittering.
According to The Political Machine, the email reads, "Yesterday, TMZ stalked out members ... and asked them about their use of Twitter. Please be aware that they may continue to do so."
The email explains Twitter is banned from the Senate floor, but permitted on the House floor. We're guessing this is a painfully obvious talking point for morons.
The email explains how we asked three congressmen about twittering and some of their answers sounded "obscene." What Democrat says this? Who under 80 says this?
NOTE TO NANCY -- Relax, we're not in your fair district to do harm. Quite the opposite, there are a lot of people who want to care about politics -- but don't -- because they find it boring. Our M.O. is simple -- if people get to know their reps on a personality level, they're more likely to listen to them when they talk policy. Hence, when we asked Congressman Schock about his abs, when we asked Senator Burr about driving his VW Thing in a snowstorm with the top down, and when we asked the dreaded Twitter questions -- a lot of people who knew nothing about these dudes connected with them. And if you don't believe us, ask the congressmen.

Now, when I looked up the coverage of this on the TMZ website I found the original story had run on April 1st (but wasn't a joke... LOL), and I did search a few different ways and didn't see this posted here.
I guess the reason it was covered again today on their show is because TMZ's cameramen in Washington ran into her and asked her about her Twittering habits either today or yesterday, and she completely ignored them.
I can't find today's video segment on the website yet, but if I do I'll post it in the thread. If someone else finds it at the site, please post it! :)

[Someone passed a rumor here at FR a few weeks back that Harvey Levin (apologies if that’s spelled wrong) may be a Conservative. I can’t remember the details on that rumor though... LOL]
I posted a question a couple of days ago about twittering and what connection is Washington all of a sudden pushing the twitter thing. Obama asked the founder of twitter to meet with him and all of a sudden all of these stars are pushing to twitter them and I even recieved a email from Sen. Bill Nelson (D) to join him of twitter. I don’t know how he got my email and I’m a registered Republican. Obama is I believe pushing this twitter thing, or the Democrats are pushing it. My seventeen year says it’s stupid and no one she knows uses it.

I’ve never used Twitter myself. I’ve seen reports of natural disasters with first-hand eyewitness info. get here on FR due to twitter before the MSM breaks in, but that’s about all my familiarity is with it.
I know some here at FR use Twitter, but the things you’ve pointed out are something I hadn’t thought of. I definitely didn’t know Twitter’s founder had met with Obama...
I wonder if the folks at TMZ might want to ask her exactly WHY she told everyone NOT to talk about twitter. The TMZ camerapeople might have been “scapegoats”! :)
Yep, I got a kick out of that too — they showed a screen-shot of the page during the segment, too! ROFL...
Realized that without today’s update video her ignoring the camerman isn’t too funny by itself... What they ASKED her was pretty hysterical though... Of course, they are playing off the whole “that sounds obscene” comment.)
“Nancy, did you twitter today?”, “Nancy, would you twitter Brad Pitt?”
Then back in the TMZ studio one guy says, “Yes, she WOULD twitter Brad Pitt - she’s already “Flick’r’ed” him!” and then they showed her “Flick’r Album” page with her photo standing next to Brad Pitt! :)
THEN the surfer dude — sorry guy, don’t know your name! — anyway, he says, “Flickr’ing” is First Base, Twittering is Second”.
My THOUGHT???

I RARELY get to see TMZ, but I recall hearing him say something once and I thought, “Hm...sanity?”
One thing I noticed about Harvey Levin was that back when Brittney was having all of her “troubles” I caught an episode of TMZ, and he was showing genuine concern for her. And, IIRC they were the only show that was raising suspicions that her male friend was drugging her... The police and her family ended up investigating that and eventually getting her away from him. She “came around” a bit shortly after that...
Sure, they showed her picture, and talked about what was happening, but in a different way than the pure feeding frenzy of almost all the other media in the WORLD at the time... Made me realize there was perhaps something a bit different about him...
I’m getting tuckered out here again now... So I’m going to go lay back down...

On the TCOT Report: http://www.tcotreport.com/ , the center column is a twitter feed of items tagged with #tcot (Top Conservatives On Twitter).
It can give you a flavor of a directed twitter stream without having to sign up for twitter (or figure out how it works).
Tweets are 140 characters maximum (so it will fit into a cell phone SMS message) so it can look pretty cryptic.

I think he may be a closet conservative. I watch the show almost every night when I’m falling asleep. Often, Harvey’s comments snap me awake—not believing what I’m hearing.
Also my daughter who is 17 was on face book a second ago and she said she took a sort of test that tells you whether you are liberal or conservative in her views and she said the test result came up as moderate liberal. I know she is against abortion and is very conservative compared to most kids her age and for the site to give her a result that she is a moderate liberal is another way the Internet is trying to indoctrinate kids into thinking that they are liberals and to vote liberal.
I don’t use Twitter. It would be a pain in the @$$ having to answer those tweets all day!
