TEHRAN -- Iranian Army said on Saturday that its air force will soon carry out the largest military maneuver in the Islamic Republic's history.
The army's Public Relation Department said in a statement that the air force will show off its defensive and combat capabilities on April 18, marking the National Army Day celebrations.
The statement pointed out that some 140 fighter jets will take part in the military exercise, including F4s, F5s, F7s, F14s, and MiG-29 aircraft, as well as the Russian Sukhoi aircraft and Boeing 707 and 747.

It seems that they take Netanyahu very seriously.
“F4s, F5s, F7s, F14s, and MiG-29 aircraft, as well as the Russian Sukhoi aircraft and Boeing 707 and 747.”
A few random thoughts:
-I wonder if those F7’s are Chinese J7’s (their version of the MiG-21) or the old F7 Cutlass?
-Ditto for the F5’s mentioned in the article. Are they Chinese MiG-17’s or the Northrop jet?
-I’d hate to be the one flying an Iranian F14. After all these years of no access to spare parts, I figure those birds have got to be held together with spit and glue. Maybe they’ve cannibalized their Tomcats to put a few of them in good shape, though.
So they have a 140 jets that we sold them 20-30 years ago with very few spare parts. They might get lucky and take one Israeli jet out but I doubt many of them will survive.
The irony that they are using our 30 year old technology to try and scare us is priceless.
Target rich environment.
Just showing off for obama now that they have his blessing to exterminate Israelites.
F4s, F5s, F7s, F14s, and MiG-29 aircraft, as well as the Russian Sukhoi aircraft and Boeing 707 and 747.
The Mig 29’s are probably the ones that the Saddam Hussein had flown to Iran during the start of the Iraq cleanup, and never returned.
I wonder how many plans will crash due to lack of parts and poor maintenance.
Pride and arrogance will cause them to put their best out front. Because it will be an air show, they will not be combat ready, meaning minimum level of weaponry, and marginal loads of fuel to enhance their performance.
Another nation that wanted to shake things up could use that window of opportunity to their best advantage.
Then again, it could be a trap.
Exactly what I was thinking!
On such-and-such a day, we are going to put all our available air defense assets into the sky at once, thereby stressing our command-and-control, air traffic, refueling, and ground maintenance systems to the max. Our air force is mostly comprised of very old, slow, and low-agility aircraft, but we make up for those shortcomings by exhibiting extremely large radar cross sections. Quiver in fear as you watch our every move on your computer screens from thousands of miles away! Allah Akhbar, and take whatever actions you deem necessary!
If I were them, I might want to keep the Israelis guessing about what I could do.
kamikaze 747’s anyone...
my first thought was of those stock films of the planes with the 7 flapping wings which collapses and crashes forward, the rotocopter, et al.
It seems every few weeks you hear of some other fool getting arrested and indicted for trying to obtain or ship spare parts to Iran.
Makes ya wonder how many folks here have been getting away with it and not got caught.
Chinese J7s bought in the 80s and F5 Tigersharks from when they bought them in the 70s...
One in five of the 70 F14s bought in the 70s are estemated operational in degraded form. The rest have extreme metal fategue and have been canabalized or they were destroyed.
The Sukhois and MiGs are mostly former Iraqi Air Force.
They forgot to mention the three Piper Cubs and one Wright Plane replica.
Have you forgotten that Herr Hussein is now in charge? Yes, we ARE intimidated by this Iranian military display. We can’t even stand up to pirates in a life raft!
140 against 3-4 F-22’s???
Doesn’t seem like a fair fight...
For the 140...
Our guys would run out of ordinance first...
Oh, we could run them in one at a time and reload/refuel...Yeah that’s the ticket!!!
