Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore says he's very likely to run for governor again next year.
Moore told the Associated Press that he plans to announce his decision June 1. That's when he could start raising money for the Republican primary in June 2010.
"Right now I'm very inclined to enter. I feel there is a need, and I feel I'm well qualified for the position," he said.
Moore, 62, garnered just 33 percent of the GOP primary vote when he ran against Gov. Bob Riley in 2006. But Riley can't run again in 2010.
In that race Moore refused to take money from political action committees, which hurt his fundraising. This time, he said, he'll take some PAC money.
So far, Greenville businessman Tim James is the only announced GOP candidate, although others have indicated they may run, including State Treasurer Kay Ivey, State Rep. Robert Bently, Alabama junior college Chancellor Bradley Byrne and Birmingham attorney Luther Strange.
Well, other than the Ten Commandements deal, I don’t know much about this man. He’s a Judge, and he’s Christian (at least it appears that way). Anyone know anything else about him?
He’d be good for Alabama, and the nation, ‘cause he’d stir it up with the feds. So don’t look for him to get elected.

Yep...the GOP Establishment has it out for him. I bet they would rather have Charles Barkley as the next Governor of Alabama instead of the Honorable Roy Moore!

Judge Moore makes AL Republicans uncomfortable in their sins.
My daughter has volunteered for him in past elections. She says he is a great man, very intelligent and very personable. He has strong morals and principles and lives up to them, according to her.
If the Third Party . . . the TEA Party . . . does well in Alabama, he probably has a chance . . . 2010 is a long way away if you look at it from an 0bama perspective . . . people will be extremely tired of him by then and hopefully the GOP will have located some Steele cajones and backbone and stand up for Constitution Defending Traditional Conservatives.
This is a surprise, as I thought that Moore was through with politics.

Moore is a jurist. Being Governor doesn’t suit him. He really ought to be on SCOTUS. My concern is that if he gets the nod for Governor, he could prove controversial enough that a halfway passable Dem might be able to defeat him.
I’m thinking Ivey is the best candidate.
Perhaps so. Moore already ran against Gov. Riley in the ‘06 GOP primary and was blown away by a 67-33% margin. Moore’s problem, again, is that he’s not really experienced in dealing with issues outside of the judicial field (and, sadly, he’d be a lightning rod with businesses boycotting AL were he to be elected Chief Exec). He’d probably be like Fob James, who was a good man, but he wasn’t adequately dealing with economic issues. We need Moore back on the bench (indeed, a Democrat lady sits in his Chief Justice slot, and he ought to run for his old job when it comes up again).
Roy Moore is God’s gift to Riley. Back in 2003, Riley attempted to raise taxes for education funding. His approval ratings dived down. At the same time, Moore created a circus with his refusal to obey a federal judge. His antics really annoyed suburban voters in AL. When Moore challenged Riley, people angry over Riley’s tax increases, decided to forgive him to stop Moore. This allowed Riley to build up his approval ratings and win re-election.
Moore is a weak candidate. He won a spot on the Supreme Court narrowly in 2000. It was through Bush’s coattails. Moore ran behind Bush in the suburbans but did well with rural areas. Perhaps, Moore should run in the AL-05. Its a rural area that continues to escape the GOP trend in the South.
He’s a one-issue wonder. Not very impressed when I’ve heard him speak.
I’ll emphasize that I absolutely backed what Moore did as Chief Justice. We’re long since past time that out-of-control federal judges deliberately disobeying the Constitution and ruling on their own personal leftist agenda has got to be stopped. Riley should’ve reappointed Moore to the AL SC and instead we ended up with a very weak appointee who ultimately lost it to a Democrat (the only Dem currently on the court). But I’ve said, Moore is a jurist, not a legislator, and running for Governor is an ill-fit (though I’d have cast a protest vote for him in ‘06, even knowing he wouldn’t beat Riley).
Moore’s home county of Etowah is in the 4th district, not the 5th (although as we learned, you don’t have to be a resident of the district you run for for Congress, only just a resident of the same state).
