8:50 AM, Wednesday, April 15, Echo Park, a community adjoining downtown Los Angeles.
This is unprecedented. Hence I am suspicious and for good reason as explained below. I am asking that others relate their experiences, especially in Los Angeles.
Today, and never before today, all three garbage trucks have completed their rounds by 8:35 AM.
Normally the green barrels are picked up first, between 6:30 and 7. Then the black or the blue considerably later -- sometimes after 2 PM. Today, the black barrels were picked up first beginning around 6 AM.
This pattern has repeated regularly for as long as we've been separating our trash (15 years?). Since before the blue barrels replaced the small yellow bins (used for paper, plastic and drink containers).
In short, in nearly 40 years living here I have never before witnessed what happened this morning. And my early experiences working with unions tells me this is totally out of character.
Union leaders frown upon efficient union workers. Why? Because when someone is more efficient than others, it makes the others look bad, certainly. But it also creates a standard that would give a manager ammunition to expect all workers to live up to.
Thus, when you see members of a public employees union getting done in 2½ hours what normally takes them 7-8 to complete, I thought I better report it to a wider audience so that we could compare notes.
This is merely MY EVIDENCE. It may merely be coincidental.
Hence, I'd like to know: Does anyone else have a similar experience to tell?
why don’t they have their own “pork patty party”?
It’s merely evidence that the stimulus is working.
Beware of them eyegouging conservatives.
Wasn’t there a trial over some goons attacking someone who had an anti-Hillary sign?
I didn’t look but you’re right, hell has frozen over!
The plan is to infiltrate the Tea Parties as extreme Right Wingnuts — be on the lookout for them.
They are probably lurking around the tea parties taking down license plates.
Improvement is not a union forte.
Your situation is more likely a plan to allow union family neighborhoods more time to sleep in.
Maybe, some actually want and agree with us that the country is going down a rat hole and that government needs to stop wasteful and unconstitional spending.
LOL. Right. Just the opposite (note, I hope you don't mind that I added a sarcasm tag to my quote of you). This working neighborhood got awoken a bit early today.
Also, those who took out their trash late (2 neighbors so far) were bitterly disappointed. :)
..... And then ..... You woke up. What a DREAM!
I approve of your optimism, I tend to agree (or maybe WISH to agree) with you about the rank and file. But do you believe that of union stewards too? In Los Angeles?
Some probably yes. Just like some democrats do.
I’m happy to report that, for the 75 minutes I was at the Virginia Beach Tea Party, there were no incidents at all. It was all peaceful, and they’ll stay peaceful... so long as the other side does as well.
I'm a Teamster member and proud conservative, the rank and file are not all kool-aid drinkers. In fact from what I have observed over 20 years, most are clueless and detached politically. Some are forced members by occupation, just like a lot of the conservative radio hosts. (I'm a driver)
The Union establishment are ALL dedicated communist.
That IS good news. Thanks for reporting.
Please ping your California list. I think further reports, one way or the other, would be important.
Thanks.
If you read my reply at number 12 you’ll see that I well understand. The situation you are forced to live with is no picnic. Thanks for standing by your principles.
Let us hope this work speedup I witnessed was for good reasons as noted the poster at reply number 9.
I’m in a union. Almost every guy that I work with dislikes Obama. “Obama supporter” is a slur. We try not to even talk politics at the union meetings because the political disconnect from the top and the bottom is so huge.
Also don't have a California ping list...but I'll ping some I know...
It is a very interesting observation.
