Tea Party Total Head Count Thread (Post Your Attendance Numbers Here)
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/15/2009 3:08:47 PM PDT by kristinn

I'm hoping to be able to ascertain an overall national figure of attendance at the tea parties today by asking Freepers to post their crowd estimates on this thread.

I'm also asking that the thread be kept to just the numbers, no photos, etc., but if you want to link back to photos in your crowd estimate that's fine.

Please give the location and number of participants.

I'll go first:

Melbourne, FL - 1000.

Port St. Lucie Florida reporting:

We had 2 tea parties in PSL today one early at the civic center. Approx 175-200 at that one but as many are saying there were many coming and going throughout so perhaps a total of 250

We then went to the front of the IRS building from 4-7 pm. Highest estimate I heard of single file persons lining the US hwy 1 was 600, however, we stretched for about a mile shoulder to shoulder :) so it may have been way more. Again folks coming and going. We had a great amount of thumbs up and horns honking, and I personally only saw one thumbs down drive by socialist. We had one guy who was trying to get us to go into the grass median of the hwy even though the cops asked us not to (rush hour 3 lanes of traffic each way and the median only was about 5 ft wide) but he wore a jacket that said tyranny patrol, and wanted to create civil disobedience. Our organizer ran up and down the street after him with a sign saying Possible Acorn Nut with an arrow. Drew a few laughs. Overall, no incidents.

One other curious report though; DHS agents, cars at our location. They were angry, annoyed it seemed, they were there to protect the IRS building from us radicals I guess. I guess Napolitano didn’t want any trouble from us law abiding tax protestors. Funny, I have not heard about even ONE argument much less anarchy. Nothing like wasting our resources profiling little old ladies at the airport, and now little old ladies with teabags on their glasses. What a world.....

more like 3000 in attendance. I was there.

I figured someone from FR was in attendance...and I figured the news had it wrong. What's new.

Rough estimates from MA...
Boston@State House..500-700 Noon
Boston@Christopher Columbus Park(site of original Tea Party)1000+ 4pm
Worcester MA 600-800
Springfield MA 600+
Cape Cod(HYannis MA) 300+

These are rough estimates from people calling the Howie Carr Show. Nothing from either Boston paper. Going back to check other websites and will update later.

Just got back from the Tea Party in Augusta, GA...it’s still going on!

We had between 1,500 and 2,000 patriots out there.

Also just heard on Mark Levin that Hannity was reporting between 15,000 and 20,000 in Atlanta!!!

It’s a great day to be a Georgian!!!

GOD BLESS THIS NATION!!! AND GOD BLESS ALL THOSE WHO ATTENDED TODAY!!!!!

500 in Westminster, Maryland.

I was wondering who was going to give the TEA Party final numbers.

Don’t forget that there are some this weekend.

Anchorage, AK being reported at 1200, so you can round that up.

I’m sure you are all over it already, but just in case, this is a good resource:

Kristinn,

There is one other important factor in estimating the total number of attendees, that is the number of people that attended but were absent prior to and after a snapshot in time taken by a single attendee. The larger the crowd, the higher that number will be - simply because many don't stay long, leave early, come late, have to go to work, pick up kids... or the million other things that people have to do.

For any given crowd, add 20 percent for a more accurate count for total attendance. (Some say adding 25 percent is 'more accurate' - particularly in bad weather.)

If the crowd is about 1000 people, adding 200 (1200) likely UNDER-STATES total attendance, because people are ALWAYS going and coming throughout entire events.

I've not settled on my own count as yet, but I can say without hesitation at the moment - the total is going to be over 5 million - but, by how much remains to be seen.
