AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"

I would have loved to hear him say “Here is what I have told Obama and here is what I will tell Obama and here are specifics as to how I’m going to govern Texas toward small government and liberty”.

Never tell your enemy what you plan to do. If Governor Perry had announced any "particulars", he would be telling the federal government of his plans.

Yes, Houston is not too cold in the winter. Of course, it’s awful humid. IIRC, the grass in the Houston area is even greener than the grass in the UK and the ‘Emerald isle’....

Perry and Palin should team up, and lead their states out of the union. Being the biggest energy producing states, they would have the US over a barrel.

Now, THAT is a pun. :-)

Wow. Wishing some hurt on OU and LSU, huh?

(Fingers crossed for Sherm and the crew this fall.)

“what will I do with my snowblower?”

If you lived in West Texas like I do, you can use it to blow the sand of your front porch.

If it doesn’t get him in legal trouble.

There goes any shot at the presidency.

Do you HONESTLY believe they are planning any future elections???

"Rick Perry is NOT presidential material."

Some state employees that I know don't think that he's gubernatorial stock either.

Hey we have a saying down here. If you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change. On a spring or fall day, you can have a blizzard in Amarillo and beach weather in Corpus Christi. Pick your poison. I prefer East Texas. Sweat weather for 8 months and sweater weather for 4 months. Plus we don’t have a state income tax. Right to work state. Good hunting for deer, dove and pigs. Awesome fishing fresh or salt water. OK I am biased, but I was born here, grew up here, lived in CA, AZ, NJ, AL and LA. but eventually came back. Not leaving for anything. Plan to live here till I die. Bury me here and that’s that. Not meaning to be harsh. Just expressing my experiences of life.

Wherebouts ? I like wide open and empty, but not too hot. I'd miss snow, too.

Search the MLS for property in the far northern counties of Texas, along the Red River, or just south. Lots of inexpensive land there.

North Texas is pretty conservative, has tons of space, and it does get snow in the winter. Can't promise you won't get hot in the summer, but that's what A/C is for ;-)

Sounds good, but where do I go for warm winters and cool summers?

San Diego, California. If you can stomach the imploding infrastructure of the state. San Diego itself is very conservative. Duncan Hunter country.

Texas WILL turn blue within 4 years!

Not likely, but I can understand your saying that if you're surrounded by foreign illegals. They're an unfortunate reality of all border states.

I’ve heard that saying before...when I was in Calgary. I figured that when there I’d have to wear my snowsuit over my bikini. Really strange weather!

I live in Oregon and like it except for the part between New Year’s and the end of February. It’s not humid here ever and the scenery is spectacular. However I think we now have the highest unemployment in the US. Property taxes are high to make up for no sales tax. We do have an income tax.

I know it’s just talk but if any state were to declare its independence it would be Texas. Lots of proud Texans out there and I wouldn’t mind braving the bugs and the humidity to join up if it ever happened.

As a semi-wealthy person, living in the mid-west.... I’d have to agree with you: I would give up ALL, including my life to defend Texas.

I seriously do NOT feel that way (at the moment) about the US. But, Texas is.... me. And, I am Texas.

No matter where you go... or, how long you are away. If you are “Texan”, it’s your blood. And, we gladly accept all others... (have, for 175 years)... who think like Texans do. Come one, come all..... Defend this great State!
