Obama’s budget will make us the most socialist country in the world

In the famous tale “The Devil and Daniel Webster,” Jabez Stone sold his soul to the devil to enjoy seven years of prosperity. He was even able to bargain for three more years before the “mortgage fell due,” but regardless the mortgage came due and the devil was there to collect.

America has sold its soul for unsustainable entitlements, and the price could very well be our capitalistic society as we move closer and closer to socialism.

Socialism, as Winston Churchill defined it, is a philosophy of failure. Yet when President Barack Obama fired the CEO of GM, the American public barely batted an eye. As financial markets have teetered on the brink of going under, the U.S. government has stepped in, taken ownership, arbitrarily decided what companies will fail and pumped and inflated others with fat TARP and bailout funds, but at a devil of a cost.

What is truly disturbing is the American people would gladly hand over their hard-won freedoms for simple short-term financial security. In fact, a March 2009 Gallup Poll found that while “64 percent of Republicans say they place more trust in businesses to solve the nation’s economic problems, 72 percent of Democrats say they trust the government more, underscoring the enormous philosophical divide in the way Republicans and Democrats view the government’s role.”

Metrics do not lie and metrically speaking, we’re there. Newsweek’s Jon Meacham and Evan Thomas, grandson of Socialist Party presidential candidate Norman Thomas, noted, “A decade ago, U.S. government spending was 34.3 percent of GDP compared with 48.2 percent in the euro zone — a roughly 14-point gap, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

That’s what I say. Steele is supposed to have raised such a pile of money so far this year, why isn’t it being used for attack ads on the tube? People who watch the networks needs to be slapped with the cold reality of what’s happening to their country once in a while.

A huge part of the problem is that most people simply don't have a clue about economics or political systems in general, so the word "socialist" or "socialism" doesn't really mean anything to them. For instance, I've had people who I thought were reasonably intelligent say things like "free donuts! That's socialism," or "the police or fire departments are socialism, do you support them?"

Approximately 40% of the US population pay no income tax at all. Why would they care about government spending as long as they’re getting their welfare and foodstamps?

My “home” is Ohio. This will always be so.

But for the moment, I’m in beautiful southern Utah.

Exactly... You can always count on "Paul's" support when you're robbing "Peter" to pay "Paul."

It's insane how people will vote for those who promise to "give" them everything without realizing they will have to pay for it all with their taxes and their children's taxes and on and on.

There are only a few things that can save our society and thus, our country. The ultimate would be a fiscally wise population, but that's unlikely without the painful learning experience obama and the dems are hell bent to give us.

In the mean time, we have to rely upon voters across the country to elect fiscal and social conservatives of any political stripe in 2010.

Hence there should be a Constitutional amendment to allow only those who pay taxes to vote.

I don’t even think they realize they are robbing “peter”. They think the almighty Government’s unlimited supply of money just materializes out of nowhere. It’s frightening.

I agree. It used to be that only property owners could vote, but that was overturned.
