One man's quest to honor America's Saturn V rocket (biggest model built)
Rocketry Planet. ^ | April 13, 2009 | Mark B. Canepa

Posted on 04/24/2009 5:01:01 PM PDT by Leisler

The rocket, standing more than three stories tall and weighing almost a ton, will be launched in 2009 on the Eastern Shore of Maryland to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of NASA's historic moon landing in 1969. To be powered by nine motors generating more than 8,000 pounds of thrust, this high-power rocket is likely to bring a huge national spotlight—however briefly—to a hobby that is still relatively unfamiliar to the general public.

I got to see this first hand at the Weak Signals show

Do you mean Neufeld’s _Von Braun_?

It’s OK. Neufeld’s prissiness — he never fails to express his dismay that Von Braun was not a feminist — is sometimes irritating.

I’ve seen two of the three (Huntsville, the Cape, but not the one in Houston, which I think is standing on its base) and I’m still impressed. :’)

According to the article it’s supposed to launch tomorrow! I had no idea of any of this large scale stuff. The first thing that pops into my head is achieving orbit, so I’m sure that those involved harbor this dream. It would be five or six stages with the last stage powered by a D motor, and it would do Wile E. Coyote proud.

I had the Mercury Redstone and Space Shuttle. But I could NEVER afford the Saturn V. Oh, what I would have done for that one...

...the RATS whine about guns... wait till they see the new Inter-State-Ballistic-Missiles!!!

Is that thing registered?. Is it stored so small children and South American Dictators cannot have easy access?

Of what legitmate need does civilians have of private ownership of deadly missiles of war?

Big Mother Pelosi demands an answer....
