Yes, I'm aware of that. I was looking for examples of his work on the net. I only found 3 or 4 pictures and all had canopy reflections. About the only thing you can do to eliminate the internal canopy reflections is to use a rubber lens piece on the end of the lens and press it against the canopy when you take pictures. This eliminates the reflections, but also limits the direction you can take pictures, and you run the risk of scratching the canopy, too.
For what? What are they training for by flying around in circles over the Statue of Liberty? IFR, instrument flight rules, and VFR, visual flight rules, training can easily be accomplished without sending half of lower Manhattan fleeing in horror into the streets.
As for the photo op, the Statue of Liberty is one of the standard backdrops for airplane porn.
True, but as I said before, millions and millions of pictures of Air Force One exist. Ditto the Statue of Liberty. Photoshopping would have been much, much cheaper....

If you take the picture with the sun in the correct angle, or if the sun is not present (overcast), good pictures without reflection come out.

I haven’t seen too many canopies in the fleet that aren’t scratched.
Well, I've been flying airplanes and gliders for over 30 years and I can count on one hand the number of photos I've made from inside a glider canopy that didn't have reflections of the inside of the cockpit. I've shot pictures in all sorts of lighting conditions with the Sun at every imaginable angle and from over two dozen different airplanes, including several, like my current motorglider, with Mecaplex optically true canopies similar to what is on military birds. Do you have any of your photos to share? I'd love to know your secret.

I suppose one is more concerned about scratching the canopy when one owns it. A replacement canopy for my motorglider runs about $13K for the raw glass at the current exchange rate with the Euro, not including installation. I try to not scratch it, although most minor scratches will buff out....
