Iran Launches Airstrikes Into Iraq
The Weekly Standard Blog ^ | May 4, 2009 | Weekly Standard

(snip)

"To say this complicates the Obama administration's diplomatic outreach is to put it mildly. This administration -- in fairness, not unlike the last few years of the Bush administration -- seems prepared to make an endless series of concessions to Tehran in order to secure a peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue. Yet despite these repeated overtures, the Iranians refuse to budge even an inch and instead make announcements of more centrifuges and new missiles. Now they're launching airstrikes in Iraq."

Where is Code Pink? If Bush were still in office they’d be marching in the streets, claiming thousands of civilians killed.

You are right savedbygrace — buying a hamburger is BIG news, bigger than this.

The MSM is a joke, embarrassing. Thank God we have the net and coverage from other countries.

I know this is a “technicality” type issues perhaps, but wouldn’t Iran launching strikes into Iraq (even if it’s the Kurd’s “territory” within Iraq) be sort of like striking against the US seeing as we are working side by side the Iraqis at this moment in a protective role?

Doesn’t this technically mean that Iran itself (not some anti-Kurdish rebels invading from Turkey), but the COUNTRY of Iran itself has TECHNICALLY in launching such missiles declared war ON Iraq, and by extension the US?

Even if I’m wrong in my understanding — the silence of our media and the White House, or Clinton on this is astounding...

If we won’t even defend parts of Iraq from their hostile neighbors when we’re ALREADY RIGHT THERE, what hope do our other allies have in thinking we will help to defend THEM (Israel & Bibi I’m sure are paying attention to Obama’s reactions here, and I think they already know Obama is NOT going to help them with Iran’s threat).

Obama isn’t going to authorize sending anyone ANYWHERE to engage Islamic Terrorists, or Islamic Tyrannical Countries, either... Why should he when they are his “buddies, and Comrades?”

Heck, Obama wouldn’t even allow our own Navy to defend against a bunch of Somali Muslim Terrorist Pirates with AK-47s, and RPGs FIRING on them at one point. So, I won’t hold my breath on him actually standing up to any COUNTRY like Iran... [Besides, backing off Iran was probably part of Putin’s demands in developing a “new friendship” between the US and Neo-Soviet Russia]

I hadn’t taken that into consideration (airspace issues). If there’s any question where Obama’s loyalty lies there should be NO QUESTIONS now... (As if people NEED more evidence?). Those within the Iraqi legislature and government need to take note. It pains me to say this, but with Bush as CIC we weren’t “occupying” the area. With Obama friendly to Iraq’s enemies like Iran — then our troops are now being USED, and are not being allowed to do their jobs. What better way to assure that Iraq falls into the hands of her enemies (Iran, Radical Sects, etc...).

Prayers for our troops over there, as always, and prayers for those on the side of truth, Freedom and Justice.

Hope you Mom is doing OK. Prayers for her and you...

Thanks for the prayers for my mom. She sure needs them. Her cancer has spread to her lungs(very very small right now, but still stage 4 as a result). I had brought her to Texas to try and put some weight on her before she tries another round of chemo to put it in remission. Yesterday she got very sick, so I took her to the ER and they admitted her. She is doing better today and will probably be released tomorrow. Appreciate the prayers.

More on subject:

From the link:

“In February, American fighter jets shot down an Iranian drone flying over Iraq. Such an incursion would’ve likely provoked an angry response from the previous administration. But the reaction to the drone incident was muted — perhaps in the interest of keeping the dialogue with Tehran going.”

So if our troops knew an Iranian drone was flying around in Iraq in Feb. and shot it down, you know the order had to come from Obama NOT TO SHOOT THESE PLANES DOWN in this latest event. Obama is playing with fire and our troops lives.

Hats off to risking your life and serving our Country. And also for being an “ambassador” of the United States.

You and your compatriots reflect the best of America and our friends we are helping know it.

Once people meet an American, they love America. I know, having lived and traveled in Europe and Asia and the subcontinent.

It was said by French political thinker, Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859) that “America is great because America is good.”

Thank you for your kind words. The Iraqis I soldiered with certainly appreciated our presence. Rarely did I see any that I was worried if they were at my “six”.

AWHACKIENUTJOB is fixing to go into Iraq and pick him up some shinny new toys and infrastructure someone just delivered. Within a year to eighteen months Iran and Iraq will join forces. They will be far worse a threat than ever under Saddam. Too bad the USSD is so blatant ignorant of the M.E. Too bad the USSD ran the war in Iraq.

"I am not defending them, just trying to understand. Are the Iranians supposed to just let the Kurds attack?"

I'm just trying to understand also.

1) Kurds have been attacking in Iran and fleeing into Iraq for a number of years.

2) At same time, terrorist in Iraq have been attacking US & Iraqi targets and fleeing in Iran & its proxy Syria. (These terrorists have also been supplied by Iran & Syria.)

3) The US did not launch air strikes on Iranian & Syrian soil AND the Iranians did not launch air strikes on Iraqi soil. An unspoken mutual restrain.

Why does Iran think it can NOW unilaterally exercise the right of air strikes across the border into Iraq without the US exercising the same right into Iran & Syria?

The only answer I can come up with is "Obama."

Here is an interesting report:

http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htterr/articles/20090507.aspx

The thought in this article is that Obama is selling the Kurds down the river to get ‘support’ from Iran on the Taliban and Afghanistan. Obama and the dems are such fools. I watched some CSPAN last night and the dems were going on and on about Somali pirates. This seems ridiculous in that Iraq is starting to fall apart, Iran is acting out, Pakistan is about to blow up, Russia is acting out, North Korea, etc.

AND THE DEMS ARE GOING ON AND ON ABOUT RAG TAG PIRATES OFF OF THE SOMALI COAST? It was astonishing to watch them drone on and on about how the ‘pirates’ were a mortal threat to America. LOL
