How to put Democratic leaders on the defensive just like Chris Matthews 'got' Cong. Pence yesterday
self | May 6, 2009 | self

Posted on 05/06/2009 3:36:34 PM PDT by BlueStateBlues

Chris Matthews used a gotcha question about evolution to ambush a GOPer off his game yesterday, and gloated about it today. Now here's a way conservative reporters can get prominent Dem. leaders and other liberals to cross a line, hem and haw, or look stupid: "Sir or Madam, are you an ape? Are you a great ape? Answer this question directly, yes or no."

Thank you for the compliment. My apologies for my part in “hijacking” the thread. :) I have yet to read “Darwin’s Black Box”. It’s now “on my list”. Thanks!

LOL — I love your explanation. Way easier than my essay down-thread! LOL I have to admit I was trying to work the whole “saw the ape and his abilities, and wanted to incorporate that into humans” into what I was writing, but didn’t find a good spot! LOL

And, yeah, I’d bet Eve was a very beautiful woman! :)

I hope OH4life was not banned based purely on what he/she said on this thread because I don’t disagree with any of those comments. If it was regarding comments revealing his/religious beliefs didn’t Jim Robinson just post a statement to the effect that he doesn’t care what religion members believe in. Please elaborate.

The claim that Darwinists DON’T claim that man evolved from ape is a copout as well.

The name Australopithecus (the “common ancestor”) means “southern ape”.

Yes, Darwinism does claim that man evolved from ape. So why do they deny it?

Excellent point!

It’s like everything else they lie about...from evolution being somehow completely unattached from origins to anything anti-darwin-cult equates to being anti-science, to “peer review” to settled “science” to this; I suppose even they believe if they repeat the lies to themselves often enough...

and well, it worked pretty well on them after all in NEA govt schools.

Oblivious cultists.

Natural Science

Oh I have studied science,
As I stare at my Christmas tree.
Part of it came from nature’s woods,
And part of it came from me.

Those tiny little needles,
The leaves of pine and scent,
Came up from the water in the ground,
And down from the sunlight spent.

From light and rain and precious air,
A weaving without machine,
Spun sugar twisted into wood,
An arcology in green.

As each to its own position,
The elements made their way,
From an inconspicuous speck of seed,
On an unknown dollop of clay.

And then a hand came calling,
Improving what was there,
To move the tree, and place it,
In dry, well-heated air.

Adorned with colorful trinkets,
Bestrung with wires and lights,
To decorate what was so plain,
Creating more decorous sights.

We’re celebrating nature,
And the place of man to it,
This is the branch we belong to,
Just after the twentieth split.

Well up from the base beginnings,
Quite close to the top of the tree,
That’s where you’ll find I’ve made my mark,
It’s the brightly glittering me.

Oh smell the fragrance drifting out,
Enjoy the twinkle and glow,
Of a natural occurrence.
It’s science don’t you know?

If Evolution was indeed “settled science” then it would no longer be officially called the THEORY of Evolution, and would instead be official considered the LAW of Evolution.

It's as unsettled as all those other tenuous theories, like the Theory of Gravity, the Theory of Special Relativity, the Theory of General Relativity, the Theory of Quantum Mechanics, the Theory of Atoms and the Theory of Electromagnetism.

In other words, it makes testable, verifiable, repeatable predictions about what we see and will see in the physical sciences. Unlike, for example, so-called Creation Science.

Actually, it looks like we have a loser, just like all evos....

“This account has been banned or suspended.”

LOL-ROTF!

I noticed a few of the usual closet liberals yammering him on, got really really quiet. LOL

Yep.

Kudos to the AdminModerator for spotting an obvious troll who wants to water down the true conservatism and love of God this site stands for.

You're right, metmom - this goes to show that evos are losers. If they get this kind of reception among real, rock-ribbed Americans on the premiere conservative website in the USA, you have to wonder how things pander for their loser views (and often wasted "careers") in the real world. Stinks for them, too, considering the number of great minds who regularly read and post on this FreeRepublic.

You can bet dollars to doughnuts that no one doing any real science actually listens to their hippy-dippy nonsense, like "we came from apes who decided to walk upright" and "we can measure how old the earth is with a Geiger counter" and "the universe just decided to go BOOM and appear", and so on and so on and so on. That's not the kind of science that actually gets stuff done, and they know it.

As the site owner, Jim Robinson, has expressed, if we can pick and choose from the Word of God, then we can pick and choose from the Constitution, as well. If you don't believe the whole Constitution as it literally stands, you're no conservative. The same applies to the Creation - if you don't believe it as it literally stands, you're no conservative, and you don't belong here.

Watered-down conservatism will never prevail - the pretenders and RINOs need to go, and the precedent has (thankfully) been set here! Only then, by appealing to true, undiluted conservatives, can FreeRepublic fire up the base and get the votes to put conservatives back in charge of our once great nation.

Comparing Darwinism to gravity is (simply another) failed liberal tactic.

Testable, verifiable, repeatable nonsense does not science make either. The so-called “peers” doing the so-called “verifying” are fellow brain-washed darwin-cultists.

Edward Peltzer, University of California, San Diego (Scripps Institute)

As a chemist, the most fascinating issue for me revolves around the origin of life. Before life began, there was no biology, only chemistry – and chemistry is the same for all time. What works (or not) today, worked (or not) back in the beginning. So, our ideas about what happened on Earth prior to the emergence of life are eminently testable in the lab. And what we have seen thus far when the reactions are left unguided as they would be in the natural world is not much. Indeed, the decomposition reactions and competing reactions out distance the synthetic reactions by far. It is only when an intelligent agent (such as a scientist or graduate student) intervenes and “tweaks” the reactions conditions “just right” do we see any progress at all, and even then it is still quite limited and very far from where we need to get. Thus, it is the very chemistry that speaks of a need for something more than just time and chance. And whether that be simply a highly specified set of initial conditions (fine-tuning) or some form of continual guidance until life ultimately emerges is still unknown. But what we do know is the random chemical reactions are both woefully insufficient and are often working against the pathways needed to succeed. For these reasons I have serious doubts about whether the current Darwinian paradigm will ever make additional progress in this area.

There’s a better variation on this, that can be drawn from the movie Gettysburg (or The Killer Angels, if you’d prefer).

There’s a scene that takes place the night before the third day where General Pickett and his brigade commanders are sitting around a campfire debating the merits of Darwin. One of them (Kemper, I think) makes a point that while they might all be willing to admit (or accuse the others) of being descended from apes, would any of them accuse General Lee of being descended from an ape?

So the variation goes like this:

“Do you believe that you are descended from an ape?”

“Yes”

“Do you believe that I am descended from an ape?”

“Yes”

“Do you believe that President Obama is descended from an ape?”

...

Another debunked liberal tactic, when someone doesn’t march with the Hissy-fit Matthew’s of the world, well then they’ve gotta be a conspiracy theorist?

Sorry, but you’re on FR, you should know better. Liberalism doesn’t work here.

But supposing the premise (short of conspiracy) were true, wasn’t this the view of oh I dunno, near 100% of scientists of a flat earth until they knew better?

To the contrary, the “theory” is merely evolving and eventually it’ll go away.

The truth sets us free like that, scientifically and other- wise.

You should pay dissentfromdarwin.org a visit! The growing list of scientists and their observations are enlightening!

Besides, any “theory” that now sees any and all dissent, criticism or even mere questions, as a “religious attack on science” never really had a snowball’s chance anyway.

Ann Coulter used a variation of this the other week when she demolished that one liberal woman who kept asking Ann if she wanted to be water-boarded (because Ann said she believed it was a necessary interrogation tool for the WOT). Ann said no, and before the lib could spring the “gotcha”, turned it around and asked “Do you want to be aborted? You believe in that.” The lib lady was left a spluttering, stammering wreck of illogic. The whole exchange was a thing of beauty.

Ummmm....do you only pay attention to the “evidence” when it comes to evolution and ignore the mountains of evidence all around you otherwise?

Here’s a clue...the title of this thread should help you understand. At least a little.

Your evolution friends aren’t anything but atheists, flaming liberals, closet liberals or confused.

Put down the liberal professor kool-aid.

Evolution is the liberal position. Period. More conservatives understand this than not.

"I seriously doubt the man, (or marginal ape, as it were) knows what evolution actually is!"

No organism knows what evolution is from individual experience. They only know life or death, success in breeding or failure.

The individual elements of a painting don't know what the overall image is. They can only be darker or lighter in certain frequencies.

All of our problems of perception have to do with scale. The unending enormities of the Universe, and the limitless grandeur of time beyond the human span, make knowing true relationships a matter of having inadequate comprehensional skills and abilities.

Possibly it's true that you won't see the big picture by looking through a microscope. But you also won't see it if you don't open your eyes.

Brilliant, which begs the quetion, why do liberals always exclaim 100% of the time it’s “settled science”, anyone that disagrees with them is anti-science, (not even getting into what gives them the idea they and they alone have all the keys to science as no one else) and that any and every criticism of evolution is attacked as relgious assualts on science?

Unless of course what you’re saying somehow doesn’t apply to liberals?

OR has everything to do with God and nothing to do with science?

Funny how that can make you look at things differently.

Evolution is the liberal position. Period. More conservatives understand this than not.

If that were true, it would be a horrifying bit of info, since it would mean conservatives are electorally doomed and, well, not that bright. Fortunately, you're wrong.

Science isn't "liberal". Science isn't "conservative". Science is the single best method humans have ever come up with for understanding and manipulating the world around us. The Theory of Evolution is a scientific theory. Sure, it is changing. All theories change. The problems with the theory of gravity actually dwarf those of evolution, so if you want to bash science, you might have more luck with that.

However, I can see reason isn't going to go very far in this discussion, so do enjoy your echo chamber.
