Limbaugh avoids Sykes catfight
The Washington Times ^ | May 11, 2009 | Joseph Weber

Posted on 05/11/2009 4:05:08 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh took the high road Monday following Wanda Sykes saying he is a terrorist and making other acerbic comments about him during a comedic routine at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner over the weekend.

Talk-radio fans and political junkies buzzed in anticipation about what Mr. Limbaugh might say on his national, three-hour radio show.

Instead of retaliating against Ms. Sykes, Mr. Limbaugh spent much of the show praising former Vice President Dick Cheney, who on Sunday was much kinder.

"What motivates Dick Cheney," Mr. Limbaugh asked rhetorically numerous times during his show. "He has all the millions he needs. He doesn't want to run for election. He's not hot for interns. He is not a torture freak."

Mr. Limbaugh eventually said Mr. Cheney continues to open himself to attacks by the liberal "drive-by media" because he is an American who speaks from his heart.

Mr. Cheney said Sunday on "Face the Nation" that Limbaugh is more representative of the Republican Party than former Secretary of State Colin Powell, whom he presumed left the party when supporting Barack Obama in the presidential race.

Ms. Sykes' comments about Mr. Limbaugh while hosting the annual Washington event Saturday night drew a mix of laughter and boos.

"Rush Limbaugh said he hopes this administration fails," Ms. Sykes said. "He just wants the country to fail. To me, that's treason. He's not saying anything different than what Osama bin Laden is saying. You might want to look into this, sir, because I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker. But he was just so strung out on OxyContin, he missed his flight. … Rush Limbaugh, 'I hope the country fails,' I hope his kidneys fail, how about that? He needs a good waterboarding, that's what he needs."

I wouldn’t spend a second watching Sykes nor pay a dime to see her act.

Ah, the vitriol usually expressed by the worshipers when their God is challenged.
Go back and bow at your Limbaugh shrine and ask for guidance.
Perhaps he will gift you with a more clever response.

As usual, you immediately begin talking out of your ass about something (or someone) you know nothing about.

Let's establish something right now:

Anyone can admire and contemplate what another person has to say, be that person Rush Limbaugh or anyone else. In the marketplace of ideas, the value (or lack of same) of their utterances is quickly determined.

In Limbaugh's case, his words and performance speak for themselves. The Number One radio program in America, bar none. The largest number of listeners, in excess of 20 million Americans. Best selling books. Arbitron ratings that any radio program director would kill for. Limbaugh has nothing to prove to anyone.

In the case of the humblegummer?

No radio program.

No mass number of listeners.

No best selling books.

No ratings at all.

The conclusion we can reach is that one day (not today, but one day perhaps) Rush Limbaugh's star will fade, he will be eclipsed by some new talent, and he will ride off into the sunset with the sneers of his detractors all calling him a "has-been".

And in your case?

You'll never be a "has-been" pal. Nope, never.

You're a "never-was", which is why Limbaugh's success grates on you so much.

Envy does not become you.

I don’t think any of us “worship” Rush... respect and admire, yes.. follow and listen, yes

I worship GOD! Rush I admire.

Have you ever listened to Rush or are you just spouting the usual liberal talking points?
Try listening for a couple of shows and you may think differently. I doubt it though because people like you can’t stand the truth.
And I will not respond to you because I don’t argue with idiots.

Actually, until the bru-ha-ha arose, I had never heard of this Sykes character. And, I would imagine, I will never hear of her again. It is well that he never acknowledges her; he would only increase her fame.

Two Irrefutable Facts

1. No one here 'worships' Rush.
2. Rush is indeed better than you.

Sorry, but who worships Rush? I sure don’t but I do listen to him. Rush is not God.

Obama's Lie of the Day is that he strongly disapproves of Sykes humor.

Who are you going to believe, Obama or your own eyes?

“Sen. McCain gave you grief about the new helicopters you didn’t order,” said Sykes, adding, “I think Mr. McCain was a little bitter because he wanted to be in the new helicopters. Mr. McCain, I’m sure if you ask nicely, your wife will buy you a new helicopter.”

While the assembled crowd of politicos, journalists and celebrities roared with laughter, Meghan was not among them.

“I didn’t like the joke about my mom [Cindy],” the young McCain told us after the dinner. “Why talk about her at all? I (didn’t mind the jokes) about my dad, but leave my mom out of it. It really wasn’t in good taste.”

LOL!

Never heard of her either.

But, now that I have, will be welcoming a chance not to ever see her or hear her again.

"You almost have to wonder, what does someone with a weekly audience of 25,000,000 have to gain by addressing someone who isn’t recognized by 22,000,000 of his audience?"

Exactly. Never heard of her before. Probably never will again.

I remember there was some female TV talk show idiot a few years ago who tried to embarrass Rush before he received a Marconi award. I guess that was at the height of her 15 minutes of fame because I never heard of her again.

Exactly. When you get into a wrestling match in the mud with a pig, you both get dirty, and the pig likes it. (unlike Barack Hussein with the Palin lipstick on a pig Palin comment, let me make it clear that I am calling Wanda Sykes a pig so there is no misunderstanding).

Shameless!

True. Having worked with executives all my life, it appears professionalism and statesmanship is completely lacking in this administration. Laughing in public at gutter-level humor that calls for physical harm to a human being who just happens to be a critic of this administration shows a complete lack of class and respect for all in this nation who question his policies.

His joke about Fox News was unfunny. I watch Fox News and have seen more than my share of news anchors and guests who not only voted for Obama, but talk highly of the man. I doubt I'm the only one who's noticed it.

I have never heard of her either. Her 15 minutes of fame is up. The joke wasn't even that funny. If you're going to insult someone at least make it humorous.

Dick Cheney has always been a decent man and strong conservative. And he's always the smartest guy in the room. Cheney is doing what Bush couldn't do in eight years and now refuses to do, what the Republican congressional "leadership" is too scared to do - he's taking the liberals head on and articulating the principles he followed and we still need to follow to win the war on terror. God bless him.

I'm sorry. IMHO, former POTUS and VPOTUS have no business criticizing a current administration....ever. Cheney didn't like it when Jimmy Carter did it. Bill Clinton had enough sense to stay quiet.

Dick should do the same. Those rules don't apply to anyone else who wasn't in the top 2 positions....criticize as much as you want.

I guarantee you that he had lots of people that hate/dislike/disagree with him listening today waiting to hear his reaction.

He made them sit through 3 hours and listen to what he had to say.

Excellent Point!! And they got nothing. Priceless...I wonder how much longer they'll listen, just in case he does respond...

Oops, sorry humblegunner, I forgot to capitalize all of the El Rushbo pronouns. TOO BAD!!

I (didn’t mind the jokes) about my dad,

Yep. This time Meghan's "celebrity status" got her squat and the press reported the profanity she used when she did not get what she wanted when she wanted it. I have to wonder why they bother to report anything she says at all. Who cares?

Under the old rules Zero and Slow Joe wouldn't be criticizing Bush and Cheney, much less saying what they did was illegal and threatening to throw their lawyers in jail. Declassifying confidential attorney client correspondence, declassifying secret interrogation memos and photos, all just to trash the preceding administration.

A very big line was crossed here and it wasn't Cheney who crossed it. In light of the unprecedented assault by an incoming Democrat administration against the preceding Republican administration Cheney would be a fool not to defend himself and his principles. And he's no fool.
