Out-of-Wedlock Birthrates Are Soaring, U.S. Reports
New York Times ^ | May 13, 2009 | Gardiner Harris

Posted on 05/13/2009 9:56:44 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Unmarried mothers gave birth to 4 out of every 10 babies born in the United States in 2007, a share that is increasing rapidly both here and abroad, according to government figures released Wednesday.

Before 1970, most unmarried mothers were teenagers. But in recent years the birthrate among unmarried women in their 20s and 30s has soared — rising 34 percent since 2002, for example, in women ages 30 to 34. In 2007, women in their 20s had 60 percent of all babies born out of wedlock, teenagers had 23 percent and women 30 and older had 17 percent.

Much of the increase in unmarried births has occurred among parents who are living together but are not married, cohabitation arrangements that tend to be less stable than marriages, studies show.

The pattern has been particularly pronounced among Hispanic women, climbing 20 percent from 2002 to 2006, the most recent year for which racial breakdowns are available. Eleven percent of unmarried Hispanic women had a baby in 2006, compared with 7 percent of unmarried black women and 3 percent of unmarried white women, according to government data drawn from birth certificates.

Titled “Changing Patterns of Nonmarital Childbearing in the United States,” the report was released by the National Center for Health Statistics, part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Out-of-wedlock births are also rising in much of the industrialized world: in Iceland, 66 percent of children are born to unmarried mothers; in Sweden, the share is 55 percent. (In other societies, though, the phenomenon remains rare — just 2 percent in Japan, for example.)

The Great Society wrecked our social fabric and destroyed the black family.

Intentionally.

“Just look at the post I am replying to, the woman is desperate to blame men... for something, anything. And this is on FreeRepublic nonetheless:

You are certainly bitter, so bitter you did not notice that I laid blame on both genders—it is a matter of human frailty and the goodies dangled in front of both by the ubiquitous entertainment industry to entice releasing values, faith, integrity and traditional commitment have taken a predictable toll.

I know single mothers put Obama in office, I am horrified at their absurd ignorance, but they are the very products of the culture that also is spawning men that will not commit, go out for their kicks and harden their hearts. It is a two headed hydra.

Chasing down “meaning”—whether on a Harley or by getting breast implants or having a baby as a fashion accessory—is a mirage.

From what I have discovered along my checkered path is that meaning comes from commitment to God, relationships, hard work and understanding that working for something/goal/love/faith —and delaying gratification—is far sweeter and more nourishing than the instant variety that must be fed like cocaine.

Don’t harden your heart, we need more light warriors, not “I’m only in for myself” cynics. You’re just 28, you haven’t met every woman in the world——their are some gems out there, stay open but be willing to pay the price in focus, sacrifice and commitment—just as she should and you’ll reap the rewards.

This culture needs strong, good men of integrity as it has never before.

I know of at least 8 women in the last 2 years - all in their 20s, all white and from 2-parent households that have gotten pregnant and had children (two lost their children - miscarriages) out of wedlock.

I commend them for not aborting the children. But what I don’t get is this notion that marriage is not an option. Most are living with their boyfriends or just indifferent to marriage. I assume it is simply fear of commitment.

It seems many have stopped honoring marriage. And its hard to make a strong case against alternative lifestyles diminishing its value to society if nobody really treats marriage as a sacred institution anymore.

Having been raised in the southwest and having been Catholic as well, I can tell you that to just assume that because most hispanics are Catholic they lead a pious life, is a mistake. They are, after all, people . The statistics in this article bear this out.

What we are moving toward is a ‘pink’ totalitarianism.

The simple rules going forward will be defined in two ways:

One, women are all property of the state. This is why marriage has transformed into a type of state ownership. If you wrong a woman, you do not wrong an individual. You wrong the state. Women, for whatever reason, are quite happy to allow themselves be owned by the state. The state also declares itself ownership of all children. You can’t even educate your child the way you want without the state coming at you, as if the state had anything to do with creating the child.

Two, the purpose of men is to work for women, i.e. the state. Be it in war, her comfort, anything, a man will be defined as only having responsibilities, never benefits.

What you will see in the near future is Obama becoming the first female president. He will keep attacking the men, as he did before, for ‘not living up to their responsibilities’ (which only the state defines). He will keep promising more goodies to the single moms.

It’s extremely depressing. I cannot imagine how you bring things back once the majority of children are born without fathers.

Knowing the place of the Church in most Hispanics' life, I don't think so.
Nope not any more.
The one's here in the US are doing it for all the 'wunnerful' benefits that come with being an unwed mother in the USA -- like having a US CITIZEN as a child. Many are also young teens and the father sperm donor is some gang-banger. (there's been articles posted with all the stats on unwed hispanics).

And by the 'religion' logic, there wouldn't be any Hispanic gangs either. All that killing, drug dealing, stealing and stuff are mortal sins. The scum in MS-13 are all Catholics. So much for them caring about their religion.

So sorry, that religion and Church argument is baloney.
That's Dubya's 'Family Values Don't Stop At The Rio Grande' canard.

Sorry, lo ciento, usted no es verdad.
Every 1,000 unmarried Hispanic women bore 92 children in 2003 (the latest year for which data exist), compared with 28 children for every 1,000 unmarried white women, 22 for every 1,000 unmarried Asian women, and 66 for every 1,000 unmarried black women. Forty-five percent of all Hispanic births occur outside of marriage, compared with 24 percent of white births and 15 percent of Asian births. Only the percentage of black out-of-wedlock births—68 percent—exceeds the Hispanic rate

I can move to another country and easily find decent non-screwed up women.

Well then, why are you still here?

You have a lot of anger, you really should see someone about it.

Wait! There's more -- comparison of teenage birthrates ...
The Mexican teen birthrate is 93 births per every 1,000 girls, compared with 27 births for every 1,000 white girls, 17 births for every 1,000 Asian girls, and 65 births for every 1,000 black girls. To put these numbers into international perspective, Japan’s teen birthrate is 3.9, Italy’s is 6.9, and France’s is 10.

Well, I guess we can’t blame this on same-sex marriage.

This and butt-sex marriage are two symptoms of the same disease.

I think a big part of the problem is that many of these “hispanics” are Indians. They are Catholic and attend Mass but their culture places a low value on marriage and for the necessity of personally caring for their children. In meso-America they are the source of an unending supply of children in orphanges.

As an aside, I blame racism in the Church for turning a blind eye to this sin.

Appearances can be deceiving. You want to know what a bitter person looks like? Talk to a divorced man. While women will only consider what I said to be ‘bitter’ and all, men will view it very differently and wonder how I became so smart.

Women have absolutely no idea what it is to be a man. They think they do, which makes the ignorance worse.

Do you know why men are spending fortunes on cars or whatever in order to impress women? It is because THEY ARE CONDITIONED TO. Does Pavlov ring a bell? Throughout a man’s life, he is being subtly conditioned to work for women, to believe women are ‘expensive’, and that happiness can only come through a ‘woman’.

There is a reason why there is a coordinated attack on men who live happily without women such as monks and priests. There is considerable literature, from Aristotle to Shakespeare to all the poets and philosophers regarding man’s happiness regarding women.

Look at what the Book of Proverbs and Saint Paul says about men regarding women.

Men are conditioned to think all happiness comes from women, that semi-nude women are draped on everything from selling cars to toilet paper.

Men are also conditioned to think that manly pursuits, such as learning knowledge, is considered ‘nerdy’ or ‘dorky’. Is James Madison a dork? What about Isaac Newton? No, it is only ‘dorky’ because it does not benefit women in some way.

You cannot blame men for doing things they have been programmed to do. I cannot blame young men for wanting to die for their country because they have been programmed to do so. I try to step in and bring some light to young men when they are acting like fools doing everything they can to ‘get’ a woman. It is not hormones that are controlling them but a type of programming that has been going on their entire lives, a type of expectation.

An example would be the high school prom which is nothing but ‘practice’ for marriage.

As for the often accusation of ‘bitterness’ when a man says anything that might be considered of negative light to women, I want you to consider this:

At any work place, find the married man and find the bachelor. You will find the married man constantly tired, sitting at his desk as if there is an immense weight on his shoulders. You will find the bachelor, however, with a spring in his step and often a couple of babes around him.

“Sarah S. Brown, chief executive of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, a nonprofit advocacy group, said sex and pregnancy were handled far too cavalierly in the United States, where rates of unplanned pregnancies, births and abortions are far higher than those of other industrialized nations.”

I thought that the article said that 55% of births in Sweden were illegitimate, but then they included this comment. It is hard to tell where the US falls compared to Europe.

You don't think someone with a deeply vested interest would come out and say she got something wrong do you?

You don't think editors with deeply vested ideological interests would print something in plain English either do you?

You might want to check this out.

They have the ultimate welfare. Child support. They are guaranteed 18 years of someone else’s money, even if the father dies it is difficult to get out of. Its a total scam and the states make off with plenty of profit from it from the government thanks to clinton.
