[history]
Congressman McCotter was interviewed this morning on FOX regarding the GM pre-programmed bankruptcy. I was interested that learn that GM car manufacturing will be moved to China, where impressive vehicles like Le Car! will be made and then shipped-back to the US for purchase by reluctant consumers. McCotter noted that not only is this bankruptcy a gift to the UAW, but also a victory for the EnviroNazis who will at last force Americans to buy the small, dangerous, lawnmowers-with-4- seats they have demanded for years.

If they move manufacturing of GM (bailed out with my tax dollars) to China, I will never buy another GM vehicle as long as I live. Ever."
Just on principle, I will not purchase a Government Motors product (includes Frigidaire). I will not buy a Chrysler product either. I will not buy anything from a state-run company since I am effectively being forced to pay for their products anyway.
GM, Chrysler the UAW and Obama can go to hell.

Very different from how NBC portrayed this situation this morning. “Nothing to see here, move along, everything’s fine - well, a few people might lose their jobs but basically everything’s still the same [big smiles]” - I’m inaccurately paraphrasing sarcastically but you get the drift.
We in Ohio know better - they needn’t have aired such drivel here.

In the Old America, yes. But in the New Amerika they will be punished - you wait and see.

This article is a little short on detail and I think people are reacting to something that's designed to be inflammatory. I hate what's happening what GM as much as anyone but the company is not going to move all manufacturing to China. They are going to increase overseas production of cars sold in the U.S. , but let's get real here folks.

The UAW will own approx. 40% of the reorganized GM. But since manufacturing will be in China, how does that help workers here? Workers of the world, UNITE! Cast off your chains and become CAPITALISTS!
The irony is so thick you can cut it with a knife...

GtG

GM is already in China in a big way........ It is one of their larger sales markets [151,084 vehicles in April, 09].
GM products are imported now:
Chev Aveo-Pontiac G3 — South Korea
Pontiac G8 — Austrialia
Saturn Astra — Belgium
Saturn Vue — Mexico

Cars that AMERICANS WILL NOT BUY...
We’ve seen how all this works, before.
GM builds Vega’s and Metros that they can’t make any money selling. In just a year or two, Government Motors will be back to the Fed for more cash.

UAW will be setting up there too, I suppose. Already a union there. It's called the Chinese Communist Party.

I think you have it nailed.........
Imports to begin in 2011 of some 17,000 units ramped up to 50,000 by 2014..... Not exactly the entire output of GM sales in the US.

My guess is that the administration will deny Ford access to parts suppliers that gov. will eventually own. Realize that the big three are mostly assembly operations, parts supply chain is very large and fragile to just-in-time operations.

I think this helps to explain obama’s “success.” The rules really have changed/are changing, and Americans are still thinking like Americans. We believe contracts are binding, we believe our government looks out for our country’s best interests, etc., when in fact these things aren’t necessarily true any more. It’s a wild west ruthless kind of atmosphere now and most of us are still thinking in “oh that could never happen here” terms. IMO, of course.
