The suspect in the shooting death of Dr. George Tiller was "a fanatic about abortion," interviews with former acquaintances indicated. Scott P. Roeder, 51, of Merriam, Kan., is expected to be charged Monday with shooting and killing Tiller Sunday in the foyer of the church Tiller attended in Wichita. Roeder strongly opposed abortion and belonged to an anti-government organization in the 1990s, McClatchy newspaper reported.
Roeder was arrested near Gardner, about 170 miles from the scene of the shooting, about three hours after Tiller was shot and killed about 10 a.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church.
Regina Dinwiddie, an anti-abortion activist in Kansas City, Kan., told McClatchy Roeder believed it was justifiable homicide to kill doctors who performed abortions, as Tiller had.
"I know he very strongly believed that abortion was murder and that you ought to defend the little ones, both born and unborn," Dinwiddie said.
Roeder was involved in the anti-government "Freemen" movement, McClatchy reported. Members asserted sovereignty and claimed to be exempt from government control.
Morris Wilson, an official with the Kansas Unorganized Citizens Militia in the mid-1990s, said Roeder talked often about "how awful abortion was."
"I'd say he's a good ol' boy except he was just so fanatic about abortion," Wilson said.
Roeder was convicted in 1996 and sentenced to 24 months probation after a traffic stop turned up weapons and explosives in his car, McClatchy reported. The conviction was overturned in 1997 when the Kansas Court of Appeals ruled the evidence was obtained through an illegal police search of his car.
Well Prez said we needed to have a dialogue....
In the coming days we will know every group this guys has been involved with and see every Internet post he has ever written on abortion.
Good.
The doctor’s killer is obviously a pro-choicer who’s a believer of late late-term abortion. How could he possibly be a pro-lifer. Pro-life don’t believe in killing babies or anyone. This is a pro-choicer crime
If we were coldly Machiavellian, we would welcome more Tillers. They have offed more potential liberals than we could ever hope to merely dissuade on the campaign stump.
They keep reporting Tiller was attending a ‘church.’ Was it a Luciferian band of devil-worshipers or something? I’m having trouble imagining this guy inside a church.
Not all “churches” are alike.
The murderer who killed the murderer should have used a coat hanger and a fifth of black label to kill the killer ......that seems to be Ok with the presstitutes and polidiots and their pandering populace or peons.
Other side of this is the legal system again has a nut job they play catch and release with . Results aren’t surprising over time. Was this killer (you choose) on Governor Kathleen’s official or unofficial payroll ?
My opinion......stay safe !
Reformation Lutheran Church.
Whatever that means.
This is headline news. Meanwhile the dismemberment of millions of babies per year while they kick and jerk in pan gets barely a whisper in the mainstream media.
As for this murderer, I don’t know what his motivation is but if he considers himself a Christian then he needs to read Romans and 1 Corinthians.
Obviously both were “fanatics” on abortion.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again...were it not for abortion Al Gore would have handily won the 2000 election. And you're right. Conservative are nurturing their next generation, liberals are slaughtering their next generation.
We live in the age of “GOD DAMN AMERICA!” church and a person from there can get elected president.
No, I'd say Tiller was "a fanatic about abortion."
"Reformation" is the name of a single church, ala, "St. Mary's Catholic Church," or "Zion Lutheran Church."
Reformation Lutheran Church is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Tell your friends at NARAL that anyone who attempts to lionize Tiller is going to face big-time blowback.
I’m wondering what kind of preacher would allow this baby murderer in to his church.
Or doesn’t a church have the right to refuse service to anyone, even a baby murderer?
