SNIPPET: "The UN nuclear watchdog has discovered traces of processed uranium at a second site in Syria, the agency said on Friday, heightening concern about possible undeclared atomic activity in the Arab state.
The International Atomic Energy Agency has been examining U.S. intelligence reports that Syria almost built a North Korean-designed nuclear reactor meant to yield weapons-grade plutonium before Israel bombed it to rubble in 2007.
Inspectors who found uranium particles at the remote desert site a year ago also found similar traces at a small research reactor in the capital Damascus which the IAEA knew about and checks once a year, a IAEA report said. These traces were different from Syria's declared nuclear material inventory.
The IAEA said in February that inspectors had found enough traces of uranium in soil samples taken from the bombed site a year ago to constitute a significant find.
Friday's report said "anthropogenic natural uranium particles" had also turned up in environmental swipe samples taken from hot cells of the Miniature Neutron Source Reactor (MNSR) facility in Damascus."

WASHINGTON, June 3 (Reuters) - In a sign of improving relations between Washington and Damascus, the United States is sending a military delegation to Syria in the coming weeks to discuss Iraq, U.S. and Syrian officials said on Wednesday.
Separately, the Obama administration’s Middle East envoy George Mitchell will go to Damascus, possibly next week, to assess whether the time is right to revive talks between Israel and Syria, a U.S. official said.
The official, who asked not to be named as he was not authorized to speak on the issue, said the diplomatic moves followed a telephone call on Sunday between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem.
State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley confirmed Clinton had talked about the possibility of upcoming trips by officials to Syria but said he had nothing to announce. “We want to be engaged with Syria. We want to see what is possible,” he said.
Ahmed Salkini, press secretary at Syria’s embassy in Washington, said Syria had agreed to host a military team from U.S. Central Command but details still had to be worked out.

Syria-U.S. Contacts Intensify
Senior U.S. and Syrian officials have said that the U.S. will send a military delegation to Syria to discuss Iraq, and that this attests to improved relations between the two countries.
It was also reported that U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell is to visit Syria, as early as next week, to examine options for restarting Syria-Israel peace talks.

One source avers that Syria got some undetermined WMD materials trucked in from Iraq shortly before the Bush II attacks on Iraq began. Maybe Saddam was involved with this uranium, ya think?

OPINION: I honestly don’t know.
Certain US and UK intelligence sources were convinced that Iraq was developing nukes.
The WMD inspectors found over 500 WMD’s including more than 500 tons of yellowcake uranium, but they found no evidence of nukes.
Two years later, there was a small news article in the MSM stating that Syria was developing nuclear weapons.
I have neither a crystal ball, nor an intelligence source in Damascus, but the logical connecting of the dots says...
The nukes that the Iraqi’s were working on, went to Syria.

My comment was regarding the phrase “THIS uranium” and my comment/opinion still stands.
There are a lot of global players when it comes to uranium these days; so I honestly can’t say where “THIS uranium” came from.

Surprise - Bush was right - Saddam WAS developing WMD all along. Don’t tell the MSM; they’ve all long since made up their minds and facts would only confuse ‘em.

Saddam Hussein was Syria’s great benefactor. During the nineties Syria, which had lost its old ally the Soviet Union, served as middleman and benefitted greatly from the oil for food program. With a sound treasury the Assad family did not have to kowtow to Saudi Arabia. Now, with an independent Iraq, with Saudi Arabia puckered, the Syrian’s have turned to Iran to provide them financial security. They have also decided to play games with the fool in Washington. Syria might expect that something good could come of an agreement with Washington, but anyone in Washington with a knowledge of Syria should expect nothing in return.
