FORT WORTH, Texas—Authorities say they are investigating a natural gas explosion at the Fort Worth, Texas, home of megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes.

Fort Worth fire spokesman Lt. Kent Worley says the blast Sunday in the sunroom of the home appears to have been an accident. Authorities say no one was injured and there was no fire. The sunroom was heavily damaged. Worley says the room had a gas-fed pool heater and a large gas-fed barbecue grill.

I don’t know much about Jakes and I don’t subscribe to the prosperity theology-Olsteen-style, but, I did hear Jakes say once that he’s sold 5 bestsellers, that he tithes, and that he takes no money from his church - that his wealth was based on selling his books, and, after tithing, was his to do with as he pleases.

If true, then I agree: so long as he’s not bamboozling people into “donating” for his personal wealth, his wealth isn’t anybody’s business but his.

He is a solid preacher! Preaches the Gospel of God’s Grace in Christ a way that is both entertaining and accurately applied to modern times. I would choose T.D, Jakes over Joel Osteen any day.

Wowsa, after reading the comments of fellow Freepers, it would appear I've not seen the more ‘relevant’ sermons from T.D.????

Well, I’m still going to say a prayer for him and his family. Perhaps someone is already upset with him for something? Who know, maybe someday God will get through his thick skull, and he will hear what he is saying and have a “Conservative Conversion” of sorts? I won’t hold my breath though...

I don’t agree. He denies the trinity and said that the story of Ruth and her mother in law was the story of lesbianism!

I’ve witnessed his “work” and he has lead to more black women going down a bad path than everything else because he teaches a feminist theology imo. I’m half black and I can see the horrible effects he’s had on the black community among so called Christian women. He also introduced us to conniving money hungry, false prophetesses Paula White and Juanita Bynum!

Thank you for the information! I did not know that about T.D. I’ve only just listened to him preach on three or five occasions. I sincerely do appreciate your insights. Satan is in church every time the doors open for the congregants don’tchaknow.

BTW, the story of Ruth and Naomi is nothing about lesbianism and everything about fidelity and faith rewarded through action based upon belief sustained by the confidence God instills as one walks the path, His path ... in other words, the Book of Ruth is about faith as an action word not just a noun.

My priest doesn’t have a sunroom, much less a pool. Actually, probably not too many parishioners have one of those either. Megachurch, eh? Different strokes I guess.

A 4,000 SF house with lots of upgrades and a heated pool can be had for $350,000 or less in that area.

Yes it is. Here is a good discussion on T.D. Jakes on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkASwsVTMfk

They talk about how weak he is in defending the faith. He was on NPR and they play clips of him and talk about how he won’t say homosexuality is a sin or that salvation is only through Jesus.

Sorry guys, I have always been and always will be a guy who uses charcoal. I’ve never had any problems with tasting lighter fuel from charcoal because I give the coals sufficient time to light up before cooking anything. That extra time allows for me to better prepare any meat that I plan to cook.

Well...I like charcoal and some mesquite tossed in with it also. So no problem from me on this one. Matter of fact, I’m pretty much a ‘You cook it and I’ll eat it’ kinda guy.

My best friend is black and she has said almost exactly the same words you used to describe Jakes.

He's a self-proclaimed bishop as well.

“I guess that a clerical vow of poverty was not in the Rev. Jakes’ lexicon... “

Neither that nor the prosperity doctrine comes from God’s word.

I’ve been making my own charcoal. I even made a batch of briquettes using egg cartons. Charcoal has doubled in price in just a few years and I have access to a lot of hickory and oak, so why not?

There are greater sins than sloth. Teaching a false gospel puts one under the curse of God (Gal. 1:8,9).
