In what a U.S. military official calls an "inadvertent encounter," a Chinese submarine hit an underwater sonar array being towed by the destroyer USS John McCain on Thursday.
The array was damaged, but the sub and the ship did not collide, the official said. A sonar array is a radar towed behind a ship that listens and locates underwater sounds.
The incident occurred near Subic Bay off the coast of the Philippines.

Is that it? I had heard those things were towed a mile or more behind, but if the cable is an inch or more thick, I guess that makes more sense. The gear would get to be pretty huge if that were the case.

It seems like those Chinese subs have a very sensitive sonar detection system.NOT.

There is also the attack submarine USS Jimmy Carter, although whether Carter is alive or dead is debatable.

LOL. Carter makes me embarrassed to have served in the same branch of the military as him. That POS.

:’) The crew of the USS John McCain felt full right after the collision, but were hungry again a half hour later.
Meanwhile, the Chinese crew was having dogfish and catfish stir fry.

Arliegh Burke was actually the first person to attend the christening of the ship named in his honor.

Evidently Billy Boy Clinton didn't give everything to the Chinese....missile guidance, nuke minaturization, MIRV capability....but he held back on sonar.
In Leftspeak, that makes him a national hero - Obama, award him a medal.

obviously the sonar doesn’t work too well

I am glad I had the opportunity to do so. My country has given a lot to me.

Unfortunately, most of our enemies have already figured out that the ship is very vulnerable to attack by aquatic rabbits.

As noted by the article, the Chinese have been very aggressive towards our ships. Israel may have the most to fear from an Obama administration, but Tiawan, Japan and South Korea aren't far behind.

Pretty scary if our ships didn’t know the Chinese sub was in the area.

Granpappy McCain and Pappy McCain.
Senator McCain is John S. McCain III.
The Aegis Destroyer is named after two Admirals -- John S. McCain (Sr.) of World War II, and John S. McCain (Jr.) who was CincPac when his son (Senator McCain) was shot down in North Vietnam...
