Obama's AF One flight to Chicago & back today to cost $236,000 (NOT incl. protection, etc)
Chicago Tribune ^ | June 15, 2009 | John McCormick

Posted on 06/15/2009 8:44:03 AM PDT by BP2

As President Barack Obama flies Monday to Chicago for a midday speech on health-care reform, the round trip on Air Force One will run about $236,000, according to government estimates of the operating costs for one of the top symbols, and perks, of the presidency.

But that does not include such expenses as Secret Service protection, motorcades and helicopter transports.

After landing at O'Hare International Airport, Obama is scheduled to spend about 2 1/2 hours here. To avoid snarling traffic on the Kennedy Expressway, he likely will be taken from the airport by helicopter to a location near the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

A Government Accounting Office report in 2000 showed Air Force One cost $54,100 to operate each flight hour, or almost $67,000 in today's dollars. It is a tough number to estimate, however, because of so many variables and fixed costs that could be included in or excluded from the calculation.

I don’t think that going to New York was a bright idea, but going to Chicago for official business is allowed. We did not do this to President Bush thank goodness.

They all do this, albeit 0bama to a greater and more selfish degree. What irks me is that his wife deigns to take the other 757 separately. *spit*

Why exactly must he fly to Chicago to give a speech?

He's going to address the AMA and if they give him a standing Ovation, I'm going to hurl.

Obama, does not do the fire side chat or does he take prime time to talk to us all.....

Instead he spends money and resources like a drunken sailor, talks to those who do not work ( mid day?)........he is a blight and a son of a bitch, that cares nothing about us.

I’m sure that Republican presidents took trips like this, too.

While I would tend not to pay to much attention to these jaunts, I thought I would compare akaObama to President Reagan (via the Diaries). The comparison cannot be exact as President Reagan was shot on March 30 in his first year and had no choice but to stay in or near DC for some time after that. But until that day, a quick scan of the Diaries shows one day at Camp David on Feb 15, a four day visit to Canada March 10-13, and then a weekend stop in NYC on March 14-15 on the way back to DC. That's all I saw.

I’m sure also. It’s a sign of the MSM getting irritated, maybe?

Bush didn't talk about “sacrifice”, hector execs for their “lavish” lifestyle, and talk down the economy on a daily basis.

This new guy thinks he is a king.

He will cost us more than any president in history, mark my word. He is a pathological narcissist and he also can’t focus on one thing for more than a day. He’s shallow, greedy and a complete PIG. So is his wife.

The President is president of the entire country, and for my money they SHOULD spend a hell of a lot more time seeing the whole country, talking to real people about what a pain in the ass the federal government is with all its tentacles in every orifice the public body.

“He’s bored, he has nothing else to do or worry about. He is still in campaign mode.”

EXACTLY!! Add to your list — Hussein doesn’t have a clue. I have visions of him sitting in the Oval Office, his feet on the desk, playing video games, smoking cigarettes, ala Governor LaPettomane in “Blazing Saddles”.

Yes, but O keeps talking about efficiency & cost-savings & stuff like that. (Yea, I know...another one of his little jokes.) They could have easily done this electronically - broadcast his speech from the White House at the conference. Shouldn’t he walk his talk? And shouldn’t we remind him?
