I’m with you, but WE DON’T HAVE A PRESIDENT.

Sorry, I think there was some miscommunication between us. You mean we need to keep the PHYSICALLY apart (?).
I meant we need to make a DISTINCTION between the units.

Yes, I agree that when the sh*t hits the fan, the Army and Police need to blaze away on the Guards and thugs.

I forsee the iranian thugocracy being toppled in much the same manner as the Shah was overthrown.

The people want freedom to express themselves and are sick of living under such oppression and the more the mullahs tighten their grip to retain their power, the more people will resist.

(Makes me think of Chicago).

...so the deafening silence is actually a professional courtesy in awe of the Iranian voter fraud machine...

Killing civilians in the streets is traditionally one of the 'red lines' that the mullahs have not crossed, as the Iranian military could stop its neutrality and step in to defend the people. That's why they've traditionally employed foreign rent-a-mobs and militias to use non-lethal violence and intimidation.

If the killing is more than a few sporadic deaths, there could be a great backlash and breakdown of authority. Their conventional military is largely patriotic and pro-Persian, as opposed to the more extremist Qods force Islamist types. Street massacres, especially ones that become public knowledge, will clear the benches. Emailed digital photos and Twitter may be the leverage to get them moving and get the real revolution started.

The local newsnerd reported this as “gunmen firing at protesters.”
Not government soldiers, under orders of the top dictator.

The Artesh consists of normal conscripts and career officers, many of them from the Shah era.

Many? We don't have many people in our armed forces from that era.

I understood you, I was just making a point off the rebound, a rhetorical trick.

I’m not aware of all the factions, but I suppose the analogy is like the distinction between the SS and the German Army. The SS were, at least initially, ideological fanatics, the German Army more representative of the population. The Iranian armed forces must remember that they fought a ten year stand off with the Iraqis, whom we rolled up in 100 hours and then stopped (1991) and in three weeks (2003). They know that if they piss off the American people like they did in 1979, and elect a new Reagan, we could be in Teheran in a month.

The problem in Iraq was trying to be the cops to restore civil order, especially in the face of dissent at home. The absolute last thing the Democrats and there auxilaries in the LSM wanted to see as a US success in Iraq. Those miserable quislings killed three thousand American servicemen to ensure electoral success.

It might become bloodier than 1979. The Shah, unlike his image, was averse to bloodshed. He refrained from using maximum force and left (under pressure from inside and outside) the country.

This time there will be a showdown with the radicals, and the Army better side with the rebels.

“those who did not react to Tiananmen Square have doomed the rest of us to watch it repeated...”

Who was supposed to react and who is making you watch it? Why is what is going on in another country your or this country’s responsibility? Why are you trying to drag the rest of us into another country’s issues? We have our country for a reason and that is so we don’t have to act like nor be treated like those in other countries. If something like Tiananmen Square happens here we will take care of it our way ourselves.

Did you just come out from under a rock...need we go thru the recitation of the Islamic attacks on the western world...including 9/11?

Iran is the fountainhead of a great deal of the violence...especially in Israel and Iraq.....granted they have used proxies...but they support all of them...
