Rural Democrats differ with Barack Obama (he doesn't get rural America)

Angered by White House decisions on everything from greenhouse gases to car dealerships, congressional Democrats from rural districts are threatening to revolt against parts of President Barack Obama’s ambitious first-year agenda.

“They don’t get rural America,” said Rep. Dennis Cardoza, a Democrat who represents California’s agriculture-rich Central Valley. “They form their views of the world in large cities.”

Cardoza’s critique was aimed at Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency, but it echoes complaints rural-district Democrats have about a number of Obama administration decisions.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a complete strikeout, but they’ve just got a few more bases to it when it comes to the rural community,” said Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu.

A rural revolt could hamper the administration’s ability to pass climate change and health care legislation before the August recess.

Democrats from farm states are some of the same moderate members Obama must win to get almost any piece of his agenda through the Senate: Landrieu and Sens. Max Baucus of Montana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, and Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor of Arkansas. Without their votes, Democrats can’t move legislation over Republican filibusters — such as the one sure to come if the health care plan that moves through the Senate includes a public option supported by the administration.

"well why don’t the nitwits running Chicago know this?"

They do, its not about guns, its about control. The statists objective is to control the people, make them subjects not citizens. Thinking is not needed anymore. The government will do your thinking for you...

"Maybe they ought to come to their senses and see where their party is headed. They can convert to conservatism, come to the Republicans"

For some insights into the minds of many "liberals", read my post 17 for a little vignette that might help to explain some of this. For some people, calling themselves conservative means you are for big business and don't care about the people. It's ignorance of whats going on today, not 50 years ago.

The inner cities fear us backwoods rural savages.

Very true, the ‘hood, the barrio and the elitist liberal snobs in the city are very petrified.

However, we conservatives in the city, on the fronts lines, engaging the liberals on their own turf,(DAILY)consider the good, conservative country folks our brothers-in-arms.

Apparently, many rural Democrats are still actual Americans at heart (you know — flag waving, God-fearing, gun-owning, Pledge-reciting, military-serving, free-speaking, self-reliant).

remember reading (a long time ago) the reason why the Japanese general in WWII ruled out an attack on the U.S. mainland. Had something to do with knowing there would be a gun behind every blade of grass.

I remember reading and/or hearing about that too.

I recall clearly that NObama was caught on tape responding to a question about appearing in more suburbs..
He said he didn’t care about the suburbs and cared less about ‘rural’ people.

He must think his milk comes from Safeway.....

I’m convinced that some our tradesmen have the highest IQ of them all- they’re just one or two generations behind others in the college deal.

At the moment the woman I have here wallpapering is the only one who could figure out how to park so that all four drivers in our family have free access to our driveway. She has also been working for hours and from what I can see has not made one wrong cut yet. She’s been listening to some history channel on her mini-TV the whole time. I bet she knows more about history than most Yale graduates.

Indeed. If I was a liberal I would be very interested in a strong national defense.

I agree, I used to live in chicago. It is biggest nanny-state city I have ever seen. Its so corrupt and socialist its sickening. There are so many taxes it gives Canada a run for its money. I wonder where the tax dollars go since most of the roads are in shambles.
