Lonewolf Diaries: Republicans Need to Grow a Sense of Humor

Yes, youve read correctly. To all of you GOP types playing the offended card on a daily basis
Prepare to have your feelings hurt, because according to my carefully calculated research
Republicans need to shut up and laugh a little.
Never has the GOPs lack of funnybone been on sharper display than the last 5 months. For a party that claims to shun political correctness, weve certainly done a good job of embracing it. Over the past 150 days there have been three media-worthy politically incorrect moments related to this administration and Republicans have managed to jump on each one of them for political gain. All to no avail. Let us examine:
[1]
Exhibit A
Barack Obamas Special Olympics comment on Leno. On air, President B. Hussein Obama made a self-deprecating joke in regards to his bowling abilities. He made the implication that he was so bad at bowling that his skill level resembled that of a mentally challenged athlete. Twas a surprisingly funny, off-handed moment for a generally very unfunny president.
Republicans, however, decided to act as though they were appalled by this and ran with the you cant make fun of retards theme. (Im paraphrasing here of course, but you get the picture.) I believe that somewhere in the middle, Sarah Palin and her son Trigg were tied into the whole fiasco. The media took little notice and sharp comedians like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert managed to successfully lampoon Conservatives for being humorless old bags. Thats one for you, Democrats

I’ve hung around both Democrats and Republicans for many years and I can tell you Democrats have no sense of humor. Whenever you hear laughter, they are Republicans.

On the other hand, the best way to defeat an enemys tactic is to make it apply to them. Sometimes. Sometimes, however, all that accomplishes is that both sides are equally unpleasant and unhinged. I want somebody left that is worth talking to at parties without tiptoeing around sensibilities.

Exhibit A Barack Obamas Special Olympics comment on Leno. ... The media took little notice and sharp comedians like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert managed to successfully lampoon Conservatives for being humorless old bags. Gee... I don't suppose that could be a part of the problem. Nah.
So far not a very convincing argument from steven crowder

Exhibit B Wanda Sykes Correspondence Dinner Shtick -... To be fair, it was her least funny bit of the night, but was still performed within the context of comedy.
So when imus says "nappy headed hoes" that's not considered comedy. Got it. So far, no good. I don't think steven crowder is actually reading what he wrote.

Before Reagan, we were seen as the party that couldnt take a joke. The Gipper fixed that one for us. Now, however, because of silly Conservatives using political correctness as a fulcrum for political gain, we find ourselves right back at square one. B.S. I do not think that Reagan would have stood for anyone cracking a joke at the expense of his children. Joking about bombing the commies, sure, but never about his kids.
I think the real problem is not a lack of funny bone in the GOP, it is a lack of backbone in our elected politicians.

I would not have a problem with that if it were to work out that way. I would really like to see the other side make the first move. Too many times we've been played for a fool, the Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown thing. They say they're going to change, wait for us to play the gentleman, then whup us up side the head (remember how the ‘Rats double-crossed GHW Bush, or Clinton double-crossed the ‘Pubs in Congress on any number of issues). It's very hard, if possible at all, for me to trust ‘Rats at their word. I want to see action as well as hear words. If they make the first move, I'll hold the football still and play the game by the rules.

Advocating the Commission of a Crime, In the Rape of a Female,
of any Age is NOT Humor.
How would Dave feel if someone advocated the Rape or Murder of his Son?
To: chimera
I just don’t see myself waiting for somebody else to make the first move before I do what I feel is the right thing to do. The right thing to do is the right thing to do without regard to whether or not other people are doing it.

Advocating the Commission of a Crime, In the Rape of a Female, of any Age is NOT HumorI bet it wouldn't be hard to find that same quote from Andrea Dworkin, Gloria Steinem, Cathering McKinnon, etc. with the only difference being that they used to attack conservatives. I thought it was bad news then and I think it's bad news now.

Could it be the case that there are times when the right thing to do is stand up for yourself and not let a bully push you around? I see nothing wrong, especially in politics, with defending yourself against unfair and scurrilous attacks and innuendo, and sometimes that means getting tough with someone who is obviously trying to take advantage of your good nature. There comes a time in most people's lives where, no matter how generous of nature and gentle of heart they may be, they simply have had enough. I am at that point with these people. Maybe you are not (yet). But there may come a time when you will be.
I'll leave it at that. You can have the last word if that's important to you.

*grin* The last word isn't important to me.
My main concern is that you don't think that I'm unsympathetic with or don't understand your own frustration and anger even though we may disagree. I do want people to feel motivated to do something, to speak up, and to participate - I even want us to come down hard on them. I think they've earned it. I just don't want to do it the same way they do.

What do I know?but I thought Republicans had a sense of humor and those are Democrats.
To: AreaMan
There’s a difference between a joke or comedy and a slur. I’m proud to say that I don’t think slurs are very funny but I love a good joke!

True with Bill Clinton. Difference is Clinton lied under oath. If this Ensign did that then he should resign.
