Who Serves as Oversight to AmeriCorps Now?

Where is the Oversight to AmeriCorps Now?

The Inspectors General for the AmeriCorps program (national service program which just received $5.7 billion) received a phone call Wednesday evening, June 10, 2009, from the Whitehouse council’s office who told him Obama would fire him if he did not resign in one hour. He did not resign. The following day the President Obama did inform Congress of the firing but without reason.

A new law passed in 2008 said that if the President wants to fire Inspectors General he must give Congress 30 days notice and cause before firing. A co-sponsor of the law was Senator Barack Obama. This law was to protect the Inspectors General from political retribution.

We now know that the Inspectors General did a rather controversial investigation of a friend and political supporter of the President, a man named Kevin Johnson, a former NBA star who is now the mayor of Sacramento, California. Before he was Mayor Kevin Johnson had a non-profit group for children called Saint HOPE Academy. There were allegations that Johnson had misused thousands and thousands of dollars in federal AmeriCorps grants. The Inspectors General whose name is Gerald Walpin, investigated, and found out the allegations was true. Gerald Walpin’s investigation appears to have made some higher up people uneasy.

Glenn Beck provided informative perspective by diagramming the political connections. By verifying the information Glenn Beck provided one could draw their own conclusions regarding the corruption.

Here are the Important Players:

Barack Obama – President of the United States

Jackie Norris – Jackie Norris, Michele Obama’s former Chief of Staff, to join the Corporation of National and Community Services, a government agency, June 22nd as senior adviser.

Alan Solomont – A Democrat fundraiser and Chair for National and Community Services, which runs the federal AmeriCorps program.

Ted Kennedy – A Senator who provides oversight for the “Serve America Act” and the $5.7 billion he wants to go to AmeriCorps.

Kevin Johnson – Now, Mayor of Sacramento, California who agreed to repay half of the grant money for St. HOPE Academy, which he founded because of fraudulent use of the federal funds.

Gerald Walpin – Inspector General of the Corporation of National and Community Services tasked with investigating the allegations against Kevin Johnson.

Minor Players:

Kevin Hiestand - Chairman of the Board of St. HOPE Academy and boyhood friend and personal attorney for Kevin Johnson.

Michele Obama – Wife of the President who has expressed a clear interest in the services of Corporation of National and Community Services. Michele Obama’s written statement indicates her expectation that Jackie Norris would “work closely with my office and the administration”.

Here, in layman’s terms, is the way it has played out so far.

The Inspector General, Gerald Walpin, discovers Kevin Johnson’s fraudulent use of your tax money. Kevin Johnson and his organization is fined and told they can no longer receive any grant money from the federal government ever again.

Obama and the chain of command for Corporation of National and Community Services, Jackie Norris, Alan Solomont, disagree with the Inspector General's recommendations that Kevin Johnson can no longer receive government money.

The next move is made by Obama when he threatens to fire the Inspector General if he refuses to resign.

Would anyone like to fad a wager that Kevin Johnson and/or his non-profit organization receives additional tax payer’s money?

Maybe Rahm Emanuel will move AmeriCorps into the White House, like he did the U.S. Census.

what’s funny is that it requires 30 days to fire the AG using the law the Obama co-sponsored. It illustrate that this wasn’t your typical firing, they wanted him out as soon as possible

If even a small percentage of the AmeriCorps becomes something like ACORN it will be yet another government-financed political activist organization with vast resources at its disposal.

Imagine what Hitler's Brownshirts could have done with a fraction of 5.7 billion.

Who Serves as Oversight to AmeriCorps Now?

The Obamessiah himself will be taking on those duties, won't he? And I'm sure he'll do the same stellar job he has done in all one of his previous executive-level positions!

Citizen reporters need to investigate where all of the money for CNCS/Americorp is going.

“Imagine what Hitler’s Brownshirts could have done with a fraction of 5.7 billion.”

In no manner, way, shape or form do members of ACORN resemble the Brownshirts in physical stature, intelligence or martial skills.

At best, ACORN members sighted along the shore would be surmised as beached whales. ACORN figuring out the change owed for a burger would take you into the next decade. Choose a plunger as your weapon should you need to fight an ACORN member. ACORN members know what they are and consequently fear this tool.

Ha! Okay they can’t make change for the megabucks but still they do know how to spend. Maybe we should invest in FUBU and Rent-a-thug.

Citizen reporters need to investigate

The first people who would investigate something like this would be Congress.

The congressional committee that oversees AmeriCorps is the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee. This committee is chaired by Ted Kennedy who a few months ago joined President Obama in the signing of the $5.7 Billion Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act.

The $5.7 Billion will triple the size of AmeriCorps. It is unlikely that the Democrats will look into an investigation that would reveal the AmeriCorps corruption or other Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now corruption.

Does Ted Kennedy actually work anymore? Why hasn’t he resigned? Who runs Ted Kennedy’s office?

Citizen journalists need to get to work and root out the corruption.
