“Oh, the liberals are going to bury this study.....watch how fast California reverses itself on this one!”

The financial wreck they're in, I think they'll just make it legal and put a fat tax on it. Then they can get back to business as usual, spending taxpayer money between tokes.

Regards

Dear Harry Potter (or Peter Horry) or what ever your name is - I forget.

Regardless, just because the study said specifically “Cancer” and it didn’t mean that it will kill you, or - what was the subject again......

Oh well - whatever “Dude”

This should give Obama a reason to follow in the foot steps of England who plan to get a law on the books next month to require people who smoke to obtain a $20.00 license.

And disqualify yourself from any future Obamacare.

Of course, you'll still be paying taxes.

Here's the scoop. Your lungs are lined with delicate cells (columnar cells) that are meant to keep your lungs a bit moist. These cells have little cilia (fine hairs) on their edges that are useful to waft upwards fine dust, etc., so that it doesn’t settle in your lungs. When you smoke, tobacco or marijuana, the smoke paralyzes these fine hairs and they fall off. The cells then start to mutate into cells that will protect (squamous cells)the lungs instead of secrete fluid. This is called squamous metaplasia. After X amount of years these protective cells, not meant to be lining your lungs anyway, can become cancerous. Any smoke or lung irritant CAN cause lung disease or cancer.

PS-I work in cancer detection. Lung cancer can hit people at any age. There are also several different types of lung cancer. Some really have nothing to do with smoking or second hand smoke. Sometimes your risk of getting cancer is just a crap shoot.

Nothing. Just an excuse for the libertarian bashers to pollute said threads. Not exactly.

In many ways, I would describe myself as a libertarian, but with our govt mainly adopting socialism, libertarianism does not work for society in little freedoms here and there. You have to have the ultimate freedom to be responsible for the actions (or in-actions) that you take....without govt bailing out the person through welfare, etc.......Socialism will lead to control all aspects of your life in the end. It is tyranny ....

Fighting for these little rights, vs. true freedom as envisioned by the Founding Fathers does no good for the Libertarians....you have to throw out all the progressive laws.

You are being placated into submission by accepting these little bones of freedom that govt. benevolently decides to throw at the numbed, ignorant masses. All this pot smoking freedom is a mask in a socialist government that will create even more tyranny and chaos in lives of people to give govt more excuses to grab all the rights away from anyone who dares to critisize govt.

The govt. actually want people to lay back, smoke weed and have no motivation to go against their suppression of freedoms of religion and thought, to reward immorality in the guise of humanitarianism.

I wouldn't be surprised if govt. isn't going to force everyone on some form of anti-depressant or drug because of their "Michael Savage" type of thinking....they already order people in universities and corporations and govt. agencies to undergo reeducation and indoctrination into the "right" way of thinking......would have been unheard of prior to Wilson's years when men were real men and thinkers and women were healthy women. That is before all this nihilism of post modern German thinking became dominate in our culture.

The sun causes cancer.

Just had the second basal cell cut off my nose last Monday (.9 cm).

Note to California regulators: sticking one's nose where it doesn't belong for too long causes cancer.

"Spokesman Sam Delson says the state agency found marijuana smoke contains 33 of the same harmful chemicals as tobacco smoke. Delson says the findings came from a review of more than 30 scientific papers."

So the agency basically just catalogued the chemicals, found some shared by tobacco and pot and drew a conclusion.

That is so California.

I'd like to hear more about these so-called 30 scientific papers.

Furthermore, no jackboots kick in your door and kill your dog when you do purchase it.

Give it time.

I’m glad you’re healthy, could not care less if you smoke (I’m a non-smoker) and jumping for joy that you stopped giving the Marxists your money!

In California, you can’t go anywhere or buy anything without seeing the “This causes Cancer!” warning signs. You probably could not find a single person in the state who has ever read a single one of the signs.

The number of cancers these bazillions of signs have prevented can be counted on zero fingers.

I'm still at one - 18 years ago. Interesting how our parents were more concerned with keeping us out of the water for an hour after we ate than they were with sunburn.

I'd like to hear more about these so-called 30 scientific papers.

I can't say they're among the 30, but here's a few:

Marijuana Use and Increased Risk of Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck, 1999. "Our results suggest that marijuana use may increase the risk of head and neck cancer with a strong dose-response pattern."

Cannabinoids Induce Cancer Cell Proliferation via Tumor Necrosis Factor {alpha}-Converting Enzyme (TACE/ADAM17)-Mediated Transactivation of the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor, 2004. "Taken together, our data show that concentrations of THC comparable with those detected in the serum of patients after THC administration accelerate proliferation of cancer cells instead of apoptosis and thereby contribute to cancer progression in patients."

Cannabis and tobacco smoke are not equally carcinogenic, 2005. "In conclusion, while both tobacco and cannabis smoke have similar properties chemically, their pharmacological activities differ greatly. Components of cannabis smoke minimize some carcinogenic pathways whereas tobacco smoke enhances some."

Cataloging the chemicals was stupid and comparing them to tobacco was stupid, but I'm still comfortable saying marijuana may increase the risk of cancer, or aggravate existing cancers.

Yep. And sun screen was an umbrella or shade tree. Once again, if we'd known then what we know now. :-)
