A commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards has been arrested for refusing to obey Iran's Supreme Leader, according to reports from the Balatarin.

General Ali Fazli, who was recently appointed as a commander of the Revolutionary Guards in the province of Tehran, is reported to have been arrested after he refused to carry out orders from the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei to use force on people protesting the controversial re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Fazli, a veteran of the devastating Iran-Iraq war is also believed to have been sacked and taken to an unknown location.

The Revolutionary Guards is a separate body to the mainstream armed forces in Iran and is seen as one of the main and most powerful bodies responsible for protecting the Islamic theocratic regime.

Earlier today the Revolutionary Guards issued a warning on its website threatening to come down hard on Iranians who continue protesting against what many in the country see as rigged elections

Well said.

Lots of elder citizens feel the same.

Push comes to shove, it will be interesting. He does not have a clue about what being an American is, and even less about what a Texan is.

...it would be these various federalized police forces that would htake the lead in putting down the citizen rebellion.

After a career in the LE profession and knowing some of the players at Waco, I agree with you wholeheartedly. They are "militarized" true enough, but as you witnessed in Waco, when faced by a determined group defending their territory, they can be severely damaged and weakened. Although well armed and equipped they are not as disciplined as trained infantry.

Yeah, and be burned alive you may say. But then again, they were trapped within their own walls and surrounded, always a bad thing. But remember also how they withstood so much. BTW, I asked folks that had access to "show the illegal weapons or evidence of", to my knowledge I don't believe any evidence was presented. If any good FReepers have links to that evidence I would sure appreciate it, I've been embarrassed before!

Janet Reno screeched that there was "child abuse going on!". Sure was, apparently inflicted by various agencies surrounding the "compound". But, the good sheriff of McClennon County had already investigated those charges and also complaints of possible illegal weapons, he had done his job well but nobody was interested.

Determined American citizens have an incredible ability to organize quickly and effectively and, as experience develops become very effective.

“It’ll be interesting to see how many of our own troops fire on the American public when Hussein orders it.”

In the last political survey of military officers, 90% of officers identified themselves as Republicans or conservatives. The numbers scared the socks off the leftists in Washington.

You tell me how many troops will shoot Americans, and what the consequences will be for those who order it.

Many people noticed that. About 20 minutes into the firefight, the ATF surrendered to the women and children in the building at Waco and walked away with their hands in the air. Same thing happened in the LA riots. When confronted with a mob throwing bricks and bottles, the cops got in their cars and drove home.

This man knows what is waiting for him in that “undisclosed location,” and he has known for decades that if he disobeyed these tyrants, he would be taken to that location.

If true, this man is a brave and honorable man for this action (I have no idea what is in his past), and he is worthy of praise.

I’m less optimistic than you my friend. I hear there are polls out saying people would mind paying HIGHER TAXES if it helped fund health care for the do nothing class..

I read a comment from a poster who said Obama talked to Ayers and Dorn from that Blackberry Obama wouldn’t part with. Who knows if it’s true but who knows who’s running the country.

“And the president of the US is not strongly supporting these brave people desiring freedom, why?”

Because he supports the theocracy.

Well, they are getting a weak Iran in spades. If this revolution has any success, it will take years to re-assemble a shiite threat to Suni muslims.

How can it be "what many in the country see as a rigged election" when they admitted that there were more votes cast in 11 cities than they had voters.

Sounds just like the US.

No wonder obama isn't taking a stand on this one.

Except we have guns. I was pointing out that fact to my kids today. If police fired randomly into a crowd in the US, there would be return fire.

I think that that is especially true with regards to the police. I don't think you'd see that against soldiers as much, but there are so many hard feelings because of all the corruption and thug tactics that the police have been using lately, that there'd be a lot less hesitation to fire on them than the military.

Case in point, the Nationalen Volksarmee, and the Bereitschaftpolizei (Paramilitary police of East Germany), refused to open fire on protesters, when the surprise demonstrations started all over the country.

These were the pioneer units of communism. But they couldnt commit murder in the name of the party.

I imagine the same is the case with General Fazli.
