Chico, CA (LifeNews.com) -- An abortion advocate nearly ran over a pro-life person protesting outside a local Planned Parenthood center with his vehicle. Matthew Reid Haver, a 40-year-old from this northern California city, was arrested by police on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
Witnesses at the scene say Haver attempted to hit 60-year-old pro-life advocate James Canfield, who was outside the Planned Parenthood office on Vallombrosa Avenue.
They say Canfield was able to move out of the way in time and was not seriously injured, but he was clearly shaken by the incident.
The Paradise Post newspaper indicated Officer Brian Miller conducted an investigation after witnesses provided the license plate of Haver's vehicle. Police took Haver to a local police station where he eventually had an undisclosed medical emergency that required treatment at a local hospital.
Haver will have a future court date set at the Butte County Superior Court and his case will be sent to county prosecutors to file an official criminal complaint.
He will likely be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possible misdemeanor charges that include driving with an expired license and switching license plates with another vehicle he owns.
Police told the Post that Haver's motive was clearly targeting a pro-life person because Canfield is a regular protestor outside Planned Parenthood and also at the Women's Health Center, which does abortions.
Haver likely saw Canfield's large sign depicting a baby victimized by an abortion.
Another case of attempted vehicular assault occurred recently in Arkansas.
There, Jason Bryant Shireman was apprehended by police and charged with three counts of aggravated assault after he nearly hit a group of pro-life people outside an abortion business last October. http://www.lifenews.com/state4123.html
The pro-life advocates were standing on the curb just off of College Avenue in front of the Fayetteville Women's Clinic abortion business.
Shireman purposefully drove his suburban onto the curb in an attempt to hit or scare the sidewalk counselors outside the abortion center.
Shireman told police that he drove onto the sidewalk to show the pro-life students "what he thought about them" but denied trying to hit them with the vehicle.

Abortion boosters are eager to snuff out all live except that of themselves. Reagan said they had a conflict of interest because they had been born and were advocating death of the unborn.
Another story for the memory hole.
But what about the hate crime angle?
No surprise here, they are a good representation of their Father the devil.
A domestic terrorist.
One of these Libs was driving a Chevy Suburban mega SUV?
LOL!
There are somethings I would be willing to roll on the hood of car while shouting, “Bast*rd, you hit me” for.
This is one of them.
When the abortion chicks tell me I can't comment because I'm not a woman I tell them, "Yeah, but I used to be a baby."
They do things like this all the time, and almost never get prosecuted. I’m surprised that an arrest was made in this case.
Whether he truly intended to cause bodily injury or just make them believe that he did, his goal was domestic terrorism on people engaging in free speech.
When will Emperor No-Clothes say something about this horrible and violent segment of the political Left?
It is both legal and morally right to defend your own life by violent means; that said, THIS is the reason that armed citizens should have retaliated and ended the life of the attacker.
I wonder if it’s abortion supporters,
or just an example of the left’s general tendency to want to kill anyone that opposes them.
fair is fair....... haver should now stand in the street and try to dodge a car which is trying to run over him...
and, after all, what does it matter if the person is 60 years or 6 months in the womb? satire
The left, just due to the nature of their ideology,
fully supports the violent suppression of dissent
from that ideology.
The only mistake this guy made, as far as leftists would say,
was doing it himself instead of getting the state to do it.
