Candidate Palin has character problem

**SNIP**

That's why it was so refreshing when Sarah Palin, a woman who had stood up against corruption in the Murkowski administration, made openness and transparency in state government a central theme in her 2006 campaign for governor. In November 2006 Palin defeated Murkowski.

As Palin's first Juneau press conference as governor was breaking up, she called my wife and me aside. With apparent sincerity she asked us why we had had so much trouble getting public records from previous governors: "Why wouldn't they want you to have the full story about what they were doing?" It struck me at the time as both naive and refreshing.

Two weeks later I discovered a memorandum from a senior state attorney revealing that a top Palin aide had instructed him to keep documents secret from our newsletter even if the legal basis for doing so was weak or problematic. A few weeks after that, Meghan Stapleton, Palin's then-press secretary, told me they were keeping the documents secret because they public might misunderstand them.

Since then Palin has become the most secretive governor in Alaska's history. This month she refused to release even her official schedule or reveal when she is leaving the state. Questions from reporters are often simply ignored, or she answers a different question than the one asked. All the while she continues to mouth the claim that her administration is "open and transparent."

When it comes to letting the public know what her government is doing, Sarah Palin is either a cynical hypocrite or delusional. Either way, it reveals something important about her character.

Forget the stupid lib “journalist”.

In the eyes of this libertarian leaning conservative, Sarah has a populism problem.

Easily cured. If she reads and embraces the works of Milton Friedman she will be in a great position in a couple of years when Socialism and collectivism fails for the 745th time in human history.

So it is. My bad.

I did a search for articles by Gregg Erickson and this was the first one that came up. Obviously because he is cited in the article.

As Emily Littela would say....never mind.

“I live in Alaska, I’ve worked alongside Sarah Palin, and the Anchorage Daily News has wrapped many a fish for me.”

You shouldn’t contaminate fish you are going to eat in that fashion. You’ll probably develope cancer or something worse. :-)

Unfortunately, since Palin went directly from local office to the governorship without a stay in the legislature, she has no record of up-and-down votes on legislation to assess. That means no rating from the ACLU, among other things.

LOL! I don't think Barry ever voted for anything other than "present" unless it was for late term abortion where he voted "yes".

The guy is actually reasonably intelligent, but this is hack work. His wife contributed to Kim Elton and Hollis French, etc.

It’s basically the kind of smear job you get out of the ADN. If they can’t edit a column to the point that they allow a writer to call the NY Daily News a “conservative” paper, then that entire paper is Clydesville.

Best,

Chris

If you ignore the author/ADN, there is a great deal of accuracy in the message itself that Governor Palin’s administration is a very secretive group of folks. That's what much of the ethics dispute and the upcoming lawsuit are all about. Access to public records and e-mails. Al askans want it, Palin doesn't. Same old runaround as before.˜Open and transparent’ was just another broken campaign promise. Whatever it takes to get there, eh!

From what I gather, you aren't exactly a huge Palin fan. Ever consider putting a cork in it?

Cork it all the time. Don't post on Palin sites, for example. If they want to believe, fine, but this is Free Republic, not Conservatives4Palin. We are allowed other views that aren't immediately kicked out by the moderators. That's what Freedom of Speech is all about and why I like this site.

Did you see post 11...apparently a lot of other governors
aren’t forth coming about their schedules or whereabouts citing “security”issues. Perhaps you should “put a sock in it”.

Was it just me or did all of his qualms have to do merely with not answering questions and not saying where she was going?

Where she was going in advance, not where she had been.

WIth the host of nutjobs the libs have been trying to stir up against her, there may be valid security reasons for this, not to mention trying to get something done without having to have the press digging in the trash cans behind her and shoving a camera in her face.
