Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

I can’t blame her, but she let a lot of people down for letting the bullies win.

First, we don't know that she's leaving politics. Second, that's a ridiculous comparison since we have no idea why she is resigning.

Third, did you support Palin for president?

The Left now has a new tactic that I bet they will try again and again, now that it worked with Palin.

This is a very OLD tactic out of the left's handbook. If they do not drive their enemies from office as they have done here, they grind them down by destroying them daily in the press as they did Santorum until they couldn't be elected dog catcher.

Moses, when he tired of holding his rod up in the midst of the battle had Joshua and Caleb come along side him to help support him and his arm until the battle was won and Israel’s enemies were routed!

Sarah has no real friends in the Republican establishment ans she still has a family to consider. The Democrats, sharks though they are “come along side” one another and support each other literally to the death, fending off even true criticisms of their character. Republicans play “sink or swim” with each other

So take you ball and go home and watch the Dem’s gobble up your precious small businesses!

"Why is that? Hussein never was Governor and he aspired to higher, national office. Although he had the title of “Senator”, it was for a very short time, and he was mostly absent."

It's not fair, but Republicans and especially conservatives are held to a higher standard. It's just the way it is.

If you read her statement, she's essentially quitting because her job is uncomfortable. That's tantamount to political suicide. Personally, I'm devastated as Palin was my first and only choice. But, I'm not blinded by my admiration for Palin and can call a mistake a mistake when I see it. This is a mistake, unless some other extenuating circumstance is revealed at a later time, this is the end of her political career, at least on a national level.

Possibly this is in response to the shock of Michael Jackson’s death.

I can certainly see not seeking reelection, but why step down in July of 2009?

Bill Kristol just said as much. Could be a very shrewd move. And, with her brother saying 80% of her and her staff’s time being spent defending herself, is NO way to govern. Craptastic lefties bankrupted the coffers and work done by her office. Disgusting.

-- If she really is resigning, she must not be running for president. It makes no sense. --

It's completely unconventional to resign office when one is running for a different office, and hasn't time to tend to the job elected to. See absentee Senators, for example.

So, agreed it is unconventional, and as such will send up all sorts of concern. But at the same time, I think one can cast the resignation as a principled move, if her heart isn't into being AK governor, but instead other elected office, perhaps the better move for the public is for her to admit it and get on with it.

Would you rather have her be further savaged for “not spending enough time tending to Alaska state business”, as she travels the lower 48, laying the groundwork for her Presidential run?

Her move is a noble one.

The elite bastards destroyed a good woman with the worst campaign of public vilification in modern American history.

They can toast themselves for driving her out of public service.

I didn’t have a dog in the fight yet. It may have been Sanford but he flamed out.

I was hoping to see her do very well. Today shows me quite a bit about her character.
