Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 3, 2009

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

I was talking about the press conference at the Hilton in 1962 after the 1962 Calif. gubernatorial defeat. “You won’t have Nixon to kick around anymore.”

OK, still good. You are referring to "the wilderness years" of Nixon, 1962-1968, and I think this period in his life is worth examining. Perhaps Sarah Palin is taking a page from his book?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nixon

What Nixon did after his failed California gubernatorial candidacy in 1962:

* High-profile kickoff speech you referenced, covered by national media.
* Traveled to Europe, gave press conferences, arranged to meet with the leaders of the countries he visited.
* Moved to New York City and became a partner in a leading law firm.
* Remained largely out of the public eye, but had strong support from the Republican base for his knowledge of politics and international affairs.
* Wrote an acclaimed journal article on foreign policy towards a major national power (China).
* Campaigned for Republican candidates in the 1966 Congressional elections and took an extended trip to South America and parts of the Middle East.

I'm not saying she'll do all of that, but I am sure she'll use it as her template in some ways.

Bob Dole was dumb enough to resign his seat in the US Senate to run for President

Dole assumed that would get him points for ethics and honesty

Bob Dole overestimated the intelligence and depth of the average US voter who decides in the last 15 days by watching CBS - NBC - ABC TV if they have not already picked their candidate

Plus Dole was actually too bloody liberal himself

A candidate needs to define himself as being different than his opponent - all the more so if you are running against a mucho younger person and your name is not Ronald Reagan

Bill Clinton ran as a Centrist-Moderate and played that card through both terms

The “Most Liberal person in the US Senate” Barack Hussein Obama Junior not only ran as a Centrist-Moderate - but he actually claimed he was the “Real Conservative”

Republicans were saddled by Senator John “CFR” McCain because of open primaries and a corrupt media

My liberal NYC sister said she did not like any of the leading candidates (Hillary - McCain - Obama) - she was shocked that I agreed with her and that I wore an Operation Chaos T-Shirt during the campaign

My sister knows what the bottom line is - money - taxes - access to quality medical care - a 401K that does not turn into a 201K as hers did

-

Eight (8) huge Coronas will get me past the 4th of July - incoming rockets already tonight over the Atlantic Ocean here

Yeah, I knew all of that except that you wore an Operation Chaos T-shirt during the campaign! Ahh yeah, the Rush thing on getting rid of Hillary. Forgot that already. I remember your T-shirt now.

By tomorrow night you should be well ‘rocketed out’, lol.

My Coronas must last thru Sunday night!

Operation Chaos was really Rush’s plan to push Hillary to defeat Obama

Rush believed Hillary would be easier to defeat in November and knew Obama was mucho more radical

A McCain win with a democrat majority Senate and House may very well have been worse than having Hillary win

McAmnesty would be pushed thru faster - McCain likes Socialized Medicine - National Healthcare with his name on it would be just dandy

The only business McCain likes is his wife’s Budweiser distributorship

The more I see of Cindy McCain over in Africa pushing for sending billions there - the more I see why John McCain has gotten so Limo-Liberal

‘Gutsy, gutsy move mick. Just wow.
Not your everyday politician. At first I thought with horror that she was being driven out of politics, but it’s clear from her remarks and her family member’s remarks that this is another beginning for her, and on the eve of Independence day.

Folks in the lower 48, get ready for the ‘Cuda...LOL. ‘

Agreed! I still have my Saracuda tshirt, ready to wear!

Lol, you would probably like that too! Or a Corona distributorship.
I have not read a word about Cindy since the campaign. She likes to help children.

My bet is that Sarah is getting her own tv show. She likes being in the spotlight and knows she can't win a presidential election.

That's my guess and I'm sticking with it. haha

Cindy wants the American taxpayers to help the children in Africa

I want the children of America to grow up to a free country without being taxed to death

Cindy is worth over $100,000,000 - a hundred million bucks - She could easily give half of her own money to those kids in Africa and also give up half of her mansions and quit buying her sons expensive highly modified “drift” sportscars and hire engineers of her own to go to Africa to teach the Africans to drill wells and produce crops and raside cattle for their own kids and also to sell and become self-sufficient

Unfortunately John and Cindy and Meagan are big Global Warming fans and that is not what most Americans believe in - or can afford - not having $100,000,000 plus smackers and a huge corporation

Knowing some politicians and their families does not always produce respect and fondness

The McCains are elitists

Sarah and Todd Palin is hardly a wealthy couple

I’ve been reading threads on this forum and it sure is becoming apparent that there are people posting here who sound an awful lot like the left-wingers who have made it their mission in life to attack Governor Palin and try to convince people that she can’t succeed.

Why are folks like you counting her out when the fight has yet begun? Sure seems to me like some folks, maybe yourself, have an agenda....a “left” one or one of the establishment “right” ones.

Don’t underestimate a wiley fox, a grizzly bear and a hockey mom. Governor Palin is all of those and more.

“Don’t kid yourself Sarah is just beginning politically!”

We in Alaska have suffered a major loss today.

Sarah was the best Governor we have had since Wally Hickle. She really cared about the state and the people that live here.I hope she can do some good for the People of this country and reverse some of the socialism that is going on in Washington.

God bless you Sarah.

She counted herself out. I’m just pointing out the obvious. A politician can’t just resign like that. It’s just too erratic, and people don’t like erratic behavior in politicians (see McCain ‘08).
