JUNEAU, Alaska Outgoing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Saturday laid the groundwork to take on a larger, national role after leaving state government, citing a "higher calling" with the aim of uniting the country along conservative lines.
A day after surprising even her closest friends by announcing she would step down as Alaska governor more than a year before her term was up, the controversial hockey mom was still keeping details of her future plans under wrap. But in a statement posted on Palin's Facebook account, she suggested that she had bigger plans and a national agenda she planned to push after she resigns at the end of the month.
"I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint," she said.
Palin also cast herself as a victim and blasted the media, calling the response to her announcement "predictable" and out of touch.
"How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it's about country," the statement said. "And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make."
Palin's personal spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, confirmed to The Associated Press that the Facebook posting was written by the governor.

FOX doing a re-cap of Sarah Palin!!!
Is Sarah going to FOX?
but but but Andrea Mitchell said her friends said she was calling it quits/s
the “resignation” speech took several detours that showed it was more than just resignation,
anyone who watched her deliver the speech knew she was not going away
what a bunch of media pinheads and all their BS wishful thinking analysis
"This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law."
YEEEHAAA!
the controversial hockey mom
Ah, perhaps the AP missed the chapter about her being elected the governor of Alaska. One would think that they would refer to her as the controversial governor of Alaska instead.
Palin also cast herself as a victim and blasted the media, calling the response to her announcement “predictable” and out of touch.
You betcha!
Bulls-eye!!! As a private citizen once again, the governor can sue all the anklebiters and MSM enablers for libel and defamation of character. Tables turned!
It’s a Palin 4th of July weekend!

Just posting this because I just learned how to post pictures!
In giving up the perks of power, Alaskas governor Sarah Palin proves that she is no ordinary politician.
Powerful politicians, in other than egregious situations, seldom give up such power.
Good job and a beautiful picture it is.
Sarah had a road-to-Damascus type of epiphany. She's always known about the tremendous grassroots support for her, but she thought it had more to do with her supporters than herself. It suddenly occurred to her that she is IT -- the "IT Girl", on whose shoulders lies an immense historical responsibility regarding the United States. And instead of saying "Why me?", she's stepping up to the plate saying "Why not me?"
This is the opposite of zerobama's relation to his own destiny. In a revealing statement at the demRat convention during the campaign, he told the crowd, "What my critics don't understand is that it has nothing to do with ME. This is all about YOU!" Meaning, I suppose, that he understood that he was simply a blank slate on which his supporters were projecting everything.
It's the opposite with Sarah. It's all about her -- she was the one who didn't realize it, thinking (mistakenly, if innocently), that it was all about her grassroots supporters. When she finally "got it," it must have completely blown her away! That's why, on rewatching the videotape of her speech, I perceive a suppressed excitement or "drive" in her. She's resigning her job as governor, but she herself is not resigned.
We're all lucky to be witnessing this. I think in the next few months we're going to see some amazing things.
She does want she wants to do, God bless her for it.
Amen
=========
We are all working our own part of the battlefield... but went you see another element on the other end of the line make a move ..know the difference if their maneuvering, retreating or surrendering
Palin has resigned before to break out and maneuver...
She made her political name on the Alaska Oil and Gas board bumping heads with the party...She did a very high profile resignation where again, she was supposed to be "done"
Then she bypassed the party system and did a grass root guerrillas movement against the system all the way in to the governor's office
Is that whats going to happen this time?... don't know... but she had done this same head fake before...
The key I think to watch for is if she comes down in to the lower 48 as a very hi profile independent advocate for Alaska oil and gas and against cap and trade.. it's the logical door.. it give her a very legitimate platform to attack Obama, while being seen as doing her higher duty for Alaska...and to not to being seen as just attacking Obama with no reason.
Their was one other little odd tell this week.. a story headline, "Palin: If I ran against Obama, I would beat him" Turns out this was a story about real running but Palin in the story was clearly playing with the double meaning of her words in the story... saying she had the long term endurance to beat Obama in a run....odd trash talk from some one that was planning to give up at the end of that same week
Grassroots = Sarah Palin
Astroturfing = B. Hussein
One’s the real deal.
I don’t know whether she really had that powerful a change in insight. I suspect that the continuing crowds who greet her in small towns across the country, and continuing interest in the agenda she brings to the table have been a constant affirmation instead of an epiphany. You are definitely right about the “Why not me” and your contrasting her with Dear Leader.
yeah, yeah...higher calling...whatever.
Her family is a higher calling. Could be that’s all she meant.
“As a private citizen once again, the governor can sue all the anklebiters and MSM enablers for libel and defamation of character.”
She’s still a “public figure”, and that is the standard the courts use. She would have to prove “actual malice” to collect, not just falsehood. No problem at all if the jury is made up of Freepers!
Grassroots = Sarah Palin
Astroturfing = B. Hussein
Very funny!
But you know, of course, that the term “astroturfing” was coined (or at any rate, practiced) by none other than David Axelrod, who ran zero’s campaign. It’s a now-accepted term in the field of public relations, and if I understand correctly, has to do with planting phony names of sponsors or phony members of “advisory boards” on public-spirited organizations.
In other words, lying.
Apparently, Axelrod’s PR firm in Chicago was getting great results from this technique.
Regardless of what ‘The Plan’ becomes, I give her high praise for having the integrity to resign her position instead of being one of these useless absentee politicians who “legally” continue to hold a position for people they have no intention of actually serving. That’s refreshing.
No, I think she meant both her family and something else - that is, some approach to get the US back on track which doesn't necessarily mean being elected president. For one thing, the official GOP hates her and she'd never get to run; for another, I'd be surprised if we have another election for awhile, because I think Bambi's support for the Honduran auto-golpista (a person committing a self-coup, meaning he takes over his own elected power permanently) indicates the way he is thinking.
Somebody suggested that she could do great work in the energy field, because we now have a red-green tyranny in the making (that is, Marxists and environmentalists), and working on petroleum and energy issues, which would be a natural for an Alaskan, could be the thing that would enable her to move beyond the impossible politics of a nascent dictatorship.

Gloves are off, folks. Days of liberals smearing Republicans with false allegations and innuendo are over.
“Bulls-eye!!! As a private citizen once again, the governor can sue all the anklebiters and MSM enablers for libel and defamation of character. Tables turned!”
Check-freakin’-mate.
PALIN ‘12.
Accept no (RINO) substitutes.
Well, there’s plenty of malice behind what’s been said and written about her and her family, and it looks like the Palins have finally put Moore, McCleod, and the Celtic Diva on notice.
Axelrod and his buttboy Ethan Winner are responsible for the video suggesting Palin was a secessionist. Winner admitted it and has fallen into obscurity.
Read post #4. (Or the rest of the article.)
Once she resigns, the gloves are off. She can now represent the US. Just a few days ago, I asked on FR, who is going to step up and take on obi-one? Well, I think my answer is about to happen.
She is going to rip obama and his congress non-stop. She is going to help us fight the energy bill by telling people what it REALLY means. She is going to fight government health care by telling people what it REALLY means.
She is going to have obi-one and congress on defense constantly. Too bad she is waiting so long, though. The votes may happen before she gets there. I hope not.
Even if one or both pass, she can still do a lot of damage to obi and the dems for 2010 by revealing what the dems are doing.
The cool thing is that the media will cover her because she brings an audience where ever she goes and whatever she does. If they don’t cover her, she will do dozens of speaking engagement, which will help her cover her bills and then some.
Maybe even a talk show.
local channel 9 was quoting the Daily Kos and peddling the Daily Kos/ Obama WH smear ! I kid you not !
I’ve been wondering h myself? Ever since last night I’ve heard a few of the news folks saying things like” hmmmm?? Maybe Palin’s gong to have a talkshow?” and they look like the cat who ate the mouse? Like they know something and are teasing?
h=that must’ve wiped it out somehow?
Don’t be silly, She is a Fox!
Well done. Now go find some more. We like em’.
I’ll believe it when it happens.
Now that is a great poster. I hope you are able to use it in the future.
Her enemies made it impossible for her to govern. She did what was best for the state, first and foremost.
Anybody who thinks she’s a quitter today is going to have a real tough time making that case six months from now.
You bet he would.
Love that pic.
The term “higher calling” makes is sound as if she were planning on joining a convent.
It’s a snide headline from the AP. What else could one expect, especially since the article points out Palin will be going on the offense toward the media.
I'm sure that's at least partially true, though Palin is razor sharp, and is as aware (or more) about what drives (and raises) the pulse of her natural constituents.
She knows better than perhaps anyone alive, that she received that unprecedented outpouring of support across America because she's what the people want in a leader. Believe me, none of that was lost on her, but like all truly great leaders before her, she reacts humbly to the accolades.
My own take on her radical move, is that she's realized that it's going to take at least a couple of years of hard work rebuilding the Republican brand, so that she can successfully take the WH in 2012. That needs to start very soon.
I don't think that leaving the Governorship now was her first choice, but the incessant attacks against her made doing her job impossible, and that was an ongoing dis-service to the Alaskan people. It had to be done for the good of all concerned.
Doing so also upsets the balance of forces involved with the "game". Now that she's private citizen Palin, the industrial might of the government controlled media must cease its onslaught against her. This move takes her family out of the barrage of cannon fire. Obviously, this needed doing.
It also allows Sarah to capitalize on her enormous value as a speaker. There's no doubt she'll now earn far in excess of what she was paid as Governor. That income is desperately needed by her family to handle the reputed $500,000 in legal bills she's incurred while fending off the never-ending attacks against her.
She's now also free to begin the long process of building her war chest for a presidential run. She'll also be helping to get solid conservatives elected around the country. These people will be there when she needs them during the primary.
There's an awful lot of house cleaning that's needed in the GOP right now. Some of the grungies lounging around the corners of the house would probably work against her, in her efforts to restore our country. They need to be evicted before our fine lady can set up shop.
I could go on, but these and a few other themes appear to be crystallizing as the major strategic reasons behind her decision to step down.
Naturally, running for president is something that Sarah will have to make her own decision on, but think about this...
Millions upon millions of people are literally begging her to make the choice to lead us back to sanity and security. Really try to imagine yourself in that position for a moment.
Imagine getting thousands upon thousands of supportive communications and heartfelt appeals to help, on a weekly basis from people across the US. Really. Put yourself there.
Knowing that you have it within your power to step up and answer that call to duty, and win in the bargain, would you refuse to help? Would you ignore all of the glorious history of your country, which so eloquently tells the stories of others before you who were chosen to lead, just as you are being chosen now?
I believe that most honorable people would not abandon their countrymen if they were called upon by so many, and in such an hour of peril. They would choose to stand and serve. I believe that Sarah Palin understands all of this to her core, and I believe that she will choose to lead us.
Put it in God’s hands, and the most unexpected things happen.
Rush seems to be taking an extraordinary amount of time off lately. I see an opening for a new substitute host.
Me too. I'd love to have a framed print of it for my office. I just may do that.
