I look at the damage done to this republic by these Democrats and then I watch the only chance (Republicans) we have to turn it around and I become extremely discouraged. We could vow to hold together to try to combat the liberal stanglehold but we're fractured and we have a certain segment that believes it's virtuous to lose. We can control that but we refuse to do it.

I don't buy into the premise that "the party" is trying to get the party to go to the left. Sure there may be an element but there's also an element trying to make it go to the right.

I still vow to select the most conservative nominee I can get to run in a general election but after that process is finished, I vow to support the Republican. To not do that is committing political suicide.

The “normal” political rulebook has broken down. Her VP candidacy broke all the rules, and yet was the single most electrifying force in the 2008 election.

I do not know if she will be able to successfully build a campaign (or even if she wants to), but I daresay that any and all predictions of her political demise are foolhearty at best at this point.

The rules have changed, and she appears willing to make her own rules. Let’s see what game she calls!

He's done now but this guy is a genuine born leader and one of the finest minds in the congress, contrary to what a bunch of dimwitted Freepers say about him.

But the good news is that he's not the only one--there are many of them. Right now we have a nice conservative base on which to build. Let's vow to do it.

“I vow to support the Republican. To not do that is committing political suicide.”

I do, too. But you have to admit that having Sarah on the ticket made it much easier to pull the lever for McCain!

Absolutely. I completely agree. However, we have this certain segment that thinks she’s next to God and this kind of hero worship is like young girls at a rock concert.

True. I’m not at that point. I just admire her and wish her the best and see a lot of President Reagan in her. No actual ‘worship’ involved. That’s reserved for The Man Upstairs. ;)

I agree 100%. I want someone who tells it like it is and has the courage to follow through. The RATS are doing such great damage who knows if we can cut through the fraud and win elections.

I guess I'm a bit of an optimist because just when one thinks things are in dire straits, something happens to save us stupid humans from ourselves but who knows? I don't know what will happen.

Well, we’ve made it THIS far by our wits, LOL!

I love my Country, but I truly DO fear my corrupt Government.

Me, too. What do they say? Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

It's hard to believe we're in this situation. I never thought I'd see the day when our very republic is threatened and by our very own hand.

Steve King is spouting off about Sarah, and HE doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

I think you have to take all these comments from various politicians with a grain of salt, because they all have various candidates that they are supporting or might support, and there’s all sorts of horse trading that goes on.

Never heard of the guy...but if he is new he ought to hold off on stupid comments about people that wield much more influence than he carries.

There are those who are content to be the slave boy to the massa of the GOP...but after McCain, there will be alot fewer. We tried that Dem lite approach and it’s time to stick to principles.

I’d say after his comment re: Palin that he is not very poltically astute.

He said what many of his fellow conservatives are thinking. I'm sure if you heard everything he said, you'd have to agree with him.

If he -- with or without the help of the liberal media -- causes a few over-the-top, wild-eyed Palin fanatics to come away thinking he's anything other than what he is (a conservative's conservative) ... Well, that's just too bad.

When America turns her back on those possessing the guts and honesty to speak their minds, America deserves every "politically astute" liar she chooses instead.

How long has he been in office?

What committees does he serve on?

Never heard of him and Palin probably hasn’t either. But if he’s a conservative I support him, even with the stupid remarks re: Palin.

Hah. I'm quite sure Gov. Palin is more than familiar with Rep. Steve King (R, IA-5).

stupid remarks re: Palin.

No doubt Molly K. Hooper would be pleased to know some FReepers are willing to accept whatever she cares to write about a "staunch GOP conservative" like Steve King.
