Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his Washington attorney said Tuesday they will not cooperate with an ongoing Department of Justice investigation into the sheriff's office until the feds name specific charges and reveal what they are looking for.
Arpaio also said Tuesday during a heavily attended press conference in Phoenix he will not be intimidated nor back down in his methods of crime sweeps that have netted the arrests of 4,000 illegal immigrants in the last two and a half months.
Arpaio's office is accused of racial profiling during crime sweeps and is the target of a civil rights violations investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division. Arpaio has called the investigation "politically motivated."
Attorney Robert Driscoll, now representing Arpaio's office in the Department of Justice's investigation, was in Phoenix Tuesday to discuss the case. Driscoll formerly served as deputy assistant attorney general under Attorney General John Ashcroft between 2001 and 2003 and supervised the special litigation section of the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division.

I would suggest the security guard at the Atlanta park explosion as a much better and damning example. In the case of Stevens, its an O. J. example - they tried to frame a guilty man.

Our Sheriff has stated several times that he’s not interested in being the Governor. He just hinted at it one year for some reason, maybe to shake people up. I believe his talent would be wasted in the Governor’s office anyway. He’s much more valuable to the world as the Sheriff.

TUCSON — The warden at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Tucson says he won’t segregate prisoners by ethnic groups despite two fights in the past week that left about two dozen inmates hurt and nine prison guards injured.
Warden Greg Fizer said Saturday that both brawls involved large numbers of MEXICAN-AMERICAN and MEXICAN NATIONAL inmates facing off, but it isn’t yet known if they’re connected.
The latest fight broke out Friday night and involved about 45 inmates in one part of the prison’s Santa Rita Tent Unit. Fizer says no guards were hurt, but roughly 20 inmates were injured and five hospitalized. Four have since been released.
A fight in another area on Tuesday sent nine guards to the hospital, although none were admitted. Three inmates were hospitalized.
My point: He supports, not just Democrats, but even Janet Napolitano. He is not a conservative in any way except law enforcement.
This is where the state of Arizona need to back Joe up.
This is where states rights draw a line in the sand.
