Bill O'Reilly has called Free Republic a hate site and he may now have some ammunition to back up that assertion.

"A typical street whore." "A bunch of ghetto thugs." "Ghetto street trash." "Wonder when she will get her first abortion."

These are a small selection of some of the racially-charged comments posted to the conservative 'Free Republic' blog Thursday, aimed at U.S. President Barack Obama's 11-year-old daughter Malia after she was photographed wearing a t-shirt with a peace sign on the front.

The thread was accompanied by a photo of Michelle Obama speaking to Malia that featured the caption, "To entertain her daughter, Michelle Obama loves to make monkey sounds."

At a time when the administration is seeking any reason to squelch any speech it deems "hate", as well as the entities where that speech may be found, what the hell were these people thinking?

Yes, I've been paying attention. I read the original thread. It was disappointing. I like to think that Freepers are better than posters at DU--and we are!--but sometimes the anonymity of the net lets people give voice to foolish, ugly things they would not say aloud.

Not sure if you caught the update Bob, the reporter who was pimping this may have been involved in actually creating the story. The reporter, Chris Parry was a member of the DailyKOS, hollywoodoz and in all of his very vile comments, advocates ‘attacking “negros” and blaming it on Republicans”. He even came here to try to defend himself and in doing so, admitted he had at least three accounts, two of which where zotted (probably for comments like these). His comments on KOS and his twitter are far more vile than anything he complained about here.

If every racist post can be traced to an imposter then FR is in the clear. If they can't all be traced to imposters, then we will rightfully take a lot of heat.

I can't tell you how many times I have read FR from work on my lunch break and cringed...hoping that our corporate Internet access logging wasn't racking up the "racist site" points against my employee number.

But Sarah is a White Christian. It’s ok to overlook those comments because a person of color has better life experiences than a white person, as SOTOMAYOR stated SEVERAL TIMES!

The race baiters are getting the reactions they were looking for. Incompetent and unqualified people in leadership positions still screw up life for everyone. But NOOOOOOO. Don’t criticize anyone because they might not be white??? Of course not, even the best of folks mouth off, and, especially with the anonymity of the Internet, many folks think they can take the line of decorum and decency and push it that much further. There are also the personality types who make comments like this simply for the attention and like to cause trouble. This is true of ALL internet forums, not just here. Heck, I am a long time member of eGullet, a foodie forum not dissimilar to FR except the conversation is all about food, and you'll find just as many of these types of comments there.

The difference is, do they represent the whole of the site, or are they an exception.

Here is an example, why doesn't anyone ever target Stormfront or LibertyPost for comments like these? It is because that is the norm for those sites, thus, it is not news. If someone posts something like that here, however, because it is out of the norm, it suddenly blows up like this.

It is the old adage about the media never reporting on all the cars that didn't get in a wreck.

I am a little slow on the uptake and did not realize you are the esteemed Bob Parks. I posted a reply on your website which was a copy of a response I gave on this matter in another thread.

I want to emhasize that I think anyone who makes racist remarks should have their heads handed do them by the mods. Who I believe try as best they can to keep posts within the Free Republic policy.

I know it is hurtful to read any such remarks, but please do not think this is a tone accepted at this site.

except in this case the kids were used to showcase their Dad’s policies. That doesn’t make it right to use racist remarks but it does open the obama family up to criticism for being arrogant and stupid to parade an 11 yr old around Moscow in a 1960’s peace sign shirt when they are on official travel as representatives of America. He's getting all "victim" on us. EXCUSE ME? Getting all "victim" and am an "opportunist"...? As I am such a lousy researcher, maybe some of you should go back and look at some of the comments I received after condemning the looting after Katrina, in which I received thousands of racially vile emails from the left. I posted many of them. I never asked anyone to come to my defense, as this is what can happen when one sticks his or her neck out. But when we KNOW we are being watched, why...? I understand there are plants but people also respond to what may be written and I have sat quietly while some not-so-nice stuff circulates around here. If there has NEVER been a racial slur issued by a Freeper, let me know and I'll pull my column and issue a public apology.

Bob, I posted on one of the original threads. I, and most posters were polite. The people posting this are in the distinct minority, and some (all?) were possibly trolls. Unfortunately (!), since the threads were pulled so fast (unlike ALL over the net, where disgusting and hateful remarks against Sarah and family are allowed to stand), there is no way to prove this, now. This is not a hateful site.
