(San Antonio)-Sean Michael Block broke down crying, but it didn't help.
Sean Block, the northside bartender who was convicted of trying to sell his girlfriend's five year old daughter for sex, today was sentenced to thirty years in federal prison, 1200 WOAI news reports.
"It's thirty years that children will be safe from Sean Block," Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Thompson Braun said following the sentence.
"There is no doubt that he is a sexual predator, and we can stop him from harming children for thirty years."
Block, 40, tearfully told U.S. District Judge Henry Hudspeth that his problems stem from an 'addiction to pornography.'
"I was watching 400 porn movies a month for the ten years before I was arrested," Block said as he choked back tears.
He said he dropped out of college because he watched porn movies all day and never had time to study, and he said he 'wished' that he would have gotten the mental help he needed then.'
Block was convicted in May of selling of buying of children, distribution of child pornography, and using interstate facilities to transmit information about a minor. Prosecutors said Block and his girlfriend, Jennifer Richards, 25, hatched a plot to sell Richards' five year old daughter to man who they thought wanted to rape her and use her to make pornographic movies.
At one point they said they wanted to sell the little girl to other men, take photographs of the men having sex with the little girl, and then blackmail the men.
But the first man Block approached turned out to be an undercover FBI informant and he and Richards were arrested.
Richards pled guilty earlier this year and was sentenced to twenty years.
"We don't want to believe that there are people in our society like Sean Block, who will use children for sexual gratification, and sell them for a used car and an apartment," Braun said. "You see this on TV, you think its a TV movie. It's hard for people to wrap their mind around this, they don't want to believe people like this exist. You should be able to pick those people out. You should be able to know who is a threat to your children, and you don't. They're bartenders and teachers, and all different types of people."
Defense attorney Jimmy Parks said he will appeal the conviction and sentence.
"Obviously, when you're facing thirty years as a minimum and life at a maximum, this at least gives you some glimmer of hope that he will maybe will see daylight again."
In his statement to Judge Hudspeth, Block apologized to his family, to his wife who divorced him the day he was arrested, and to his parents and his daughter.
He also apologized to 'Tracy' for requiring that she view the 'disgusting' material that was part of his trial.
"I didn't appreciate being referred to by my first name," Braun said. "I am not on a first name basis with Sean Block."

She got less time than Block and I don’t understand why. What she did was worse, it was her own child.
I wonder where the child is? Oh please God let her be safe and with people who will love and protect her.
Just once, I want to see one of these clowns get an additional sentence for contempt of court after insulting everyone's intelligence with this kind of lame excuse.

He ain’t gonna last long in prison.
Of all the terrible cases we have heard about recently, this is one of the worst, IMO.
I'm shocked...shocked to find no mention of it in the press.
