Birther of a Nation: Poll Finds Less Than Half of Republicans Think Obama Was Born in U.S.
The Village Voice ^ | July 31, 2009 | Roy Edroso

Maybe you heard that top conservative magazine National Review dissed the birthers -- that is, the folks who believe Obama is not really President because he was born in Kenya or somewhere like it. But it's going to take more than that to bring this patriotic movement down! According to a Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll, only 42 percent of Republicans are sure Obama was born in the United States. 28 percent are sure he was born elsewhere; 30 "don't know." (We were at first shy about mentioning this because, well, Daily Kos. But Hot Air's Allahpundit -- no liberal he! -- says Research 2000 is "a reputable pollster so much as I know.")

While overt birtherism remains a vital force in what's left of the GOP coalition, the current style among the conservative intellectuals of the blogosphere is to proclaim oneself solidly anti-birther -- then demand Obama release his real birth certificate, not the one Hawaii keeps trying to fob off on us. Confederate Yankee, for example, says "I truly believe that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii," but as "the controversy -- for reasons I simply cannot fathom -- has expanded to alarming proportions," he finds it incumbent upon Obama to squelch this unfathomable controversy by releasing the One True BC. His commenters get the message ("This is why so many illegals cross the border to have the baby in the US.").

Meanwhile even National Review has given Andrew McCarthy space to play out his own not-that-I-believe-it-but-questions-remain scenario. Bottom line: in the days to come you can expect a lot of simultaneous denunciation and propagation of the birther story -- sometimes in the same place.

I guess Andrew Sullivan is a "birther" then, too: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2305794/posts

RE :” top conservative magazine National Review dissed the birthers “

Ann Coulter too. Bottom line, no one cares. He’s president, it’s over. The (pre-) election would have been the time to address this. Now it is MSNBC stuff, which MSNBC is who was talking about this poll.

Once more we see that Team Obama and his accomplices are engaged in an ALL OUT WAR on this issue. So, that SCREAMS that there is something here that they greatly fear.

Not too shabby an article, considering that it's source is The Village Voice, a far left rag.

His Kenyan grandmama claims that he was born in Kenya but you know how those Kenyans are, you can’t believe a damn thing they say.

I disagree. We sure don’t want him winning a second term.

What is so bad about answering “don’t know”?

The facts of the case are obviously enough to cast doubt on the official story. He is hiding something, but nobody knows what it is.

My theory (as I rinse and repeat) is that Anne went to Canada to take advantage of the “free” healthcare that would have unaffordable for a foreign college student. They lived in Seattle before moving to Hawaii, they would have certainly been aware of the healthcare available.

This would also explain the friend’s account in recent newspapers of remembering Anne bringing Obama her house for a visit when he was just week or so old (that’s how long they would have kept her/him back 1961). The baby wouldn’t have needed a passport in that day either, so there would be no record of HIM in 1961, but there might be on hers.

I know good and well Stanley Ann Dunham’s passport information has been wiped clean by this point.

I think a lot of people are noticing that. It's giving the issue legitimacy it never had before.

I didn't think there was much to the BC issue until the left really started kicking and screaming about it. When they spend this much time and ink ridiculing something, my Alinsky radar starts going batguano.

From their bible, "Rules for Radicals":

RULE 5: Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. There is no defense. It's irrational. It's infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

RE :”I disagree. We sure don’t want him winning a second term.

2012?? Try 2010 midterms. This birther stuff is hurting BoB so little that only MSNBC wants to talk about it, and Mathews is making every republican on his show repudiate it.

The anti-Obama-care-ers and anti-stimulus-ers are killing Obama now in a way the birthers can only dream of. How about a poll that asks republicans if they think birther-ism will have any effect on Obama?

We have to keep working on our Democrat associates and the republicans who can't get around the outragously bad adventure novel plot that the presidency was stolen by a non-qualified fraud.

Keep asking, why doesn't he just have Hawaii release the BC records? Why won't he release his college records? What is he hiding?

Allah’s no Liberal? Well he’s certainly no conservative. I know nothing about this research unit. Maybe I should but I don’t. I’d rather see a Rass poll.

The major concern is not if he was born in Hawaii but if he qualifies as a “Natural born citizen” to occupy the presidency.

He could have been born in Hawaii and still not be eligible as a natural born citizen under the constitution to be president.

The details as to why and how that can be have been posted here so many times it isn’t necessary to post it all again.
