WASHINGTON Six Texas congressmen are in the middle of a summertime political tempest sweeping the nation's capital over legislation to require future presidential candidates to show birth certificates to prove they are natural born citizens of the United States eligible to serve as president.

Here's my question: If there's nothing to this whole birth thing, why is everyone paying attention? Why aren't they just ignoring us?
The MSM...That’s why. The MSM is playing up this story to make us look bad. I’m am not arguing for or against the subject, but it sure makes us look bad as portrayed by the MSM.
Time to tell these arrogant Elitists to start packing.

Because they want you to look like fools — that’s why.
So demanding the transparency we were promised makes us idiots?
Boortz also refuses to discuss abortion and will not criticize the gay agenda. More libratarian than conservative. Swapped Celtic music for his show over two years ago after purchasing an IPOD.
You mean the BSM....The Brown Shirt Media.
Fortunately many of us left middle school behind long ago and don’t get our panties in a twist when the popular kids laugh at us.
All I continue to say is there is an easy way to force the issue without claiming Obama is inelligible for the office of POTUS.
Attack as follows. Start a not for profit website soliciting money to be donated to the Childrens ward in the Hospital that Obama was born (supposedly Kapiolani) and in the name of the one that birthed him.
Historical significance of honoring the birthing of the first black president and first president from the state of Hawaii.
When the WH refuses to give out something as simple as the birth doctors name and confirmation of the Hospital which all are available proven on the long version bc especially if the collected donation is rather large ...
It will force their hand and they will have to submit if not it could only mean that Obama hates sick children.
Yep. But the problem is, the media is picking off the fringes who have all kinds of different conspiracy theories, most of which will prove to be wrong to discredit the legitimate request for Obama's actual Birth Certificate.
It’s curious- this reaction from some on the right. They are naturally embarrassed but what’s disturbing is how few of them seem to have done any investigating or real digging.
I refer them all to Andy MCCarthy’s superb piece last week- where he clarifies it all- it’s not just about the COLB- it’s everything about the man- all those sealed and mysteriously unavailable records and documents.
As Clinton and Nixon discovered- it’s not the initial wrongdoing- it’s the coverup. Aren’t ANY of the people who are telling us to SHUT UP even a little bit curious about this man?
The media is playing up the 'birthers' because they want to make conservatives look like nuts and buffoons... the same reason they ignore the 9/11 truther types on the left -- they *don't* want the left to be perceived that way.
Now, as for the proposed law about candidates providing proof, that's just common sense. These legislators should not be tarred with the nutty birther brush.
Were the folks on the left idiots when they asked for the same from McCain? Or was he the idiot for providing proof of his eligility?
Bortz wants us to accept him, and not call him “crazy” even though the “Fair Tax” has very little chance of passing anything this century.
I give Bortz the benefit of the doubt, on that one. I think our efforts would be better spent, elsewhere, but it not my place to control the thoughts or desires of others.
I wish Bortz would show me the same respect.
After all, no harm comes from “full and fair disclosure” -—
If the MSM were doing its job, the “birther movement” would not be necessary.
I am not sure where Obama was born.
I am sure that Obama is hiding something.
Kind of like Boortz pointing at these congressmen wanting to patch a hole that leaves us open to a threat and talking about them as if they were idiots.
I’d like to hear Boortz (and all of congress) answer one simple question. “Would you ever be OK with a foreign born president?”. I think the answers would be quite telling.
Obama distanced himself from William Ayers and Rev. Wright, remember? And in most cases, Obama AGREED with the radicals in his past.
It has always bothered me that conservatives feel the need to distance themselves from conservatives that they do not agree with, 100%.
Rarely do you see anyone on the left trying to distance himself or herself from Maxine Waters or Rev. Sharpton or Al Gore.
So, what’s it to Boortz.
Some of us consider him an idiot.
Shoot, just answer the question which Hospital was Obama born at?
I would wager to bet that Obama has the most unknown past of any President ever. And some voices from our side say it's not important. Amazing!
Part of the problem is that there are plenty on the right who would love to see the Natural born requirement disappear. Too busy wanting their own way to think about the consequences.
Pete Hoekstra might make a great president but if he could win, so could George Soros.
And you think that without this issue the MSM would see us as good? The MSM sees everyone to the right of Marx as an enemy to be destroyed. No issue or question will effect that.
You would think that every non-idiot would want to know the most basic information about the man who now inhabits the most powerful office on Earth with the power to transform our lives.
His origins are intentionally shrouded in mystery. A president could not hid his origins unless it was done intentionally. It is impossible in this day and age.
My neighbor has a beagle that barks all the time at everything and everyone. It’s practically impossible to ignore him.
What if he just ignores it, and lets people donate?
I don't know if Obama is legitimate or not. But since Zero has locked up all of this public records and will not release his birth certificate and has spent perhaps millions of dollars fighting lawsuits to release it, I have to assume that he is hiding something. I guess none of this worries Boortz.
Signed, Former Listener.
By the way, we are not “birthers”, we are Constitutionalists.
I agree with you completely.
>>If there’s nothing to this whole birth thing, why is everyone paying attention? Why aren’t they just ignoring us?<<
Because the sane conservatives want to make sure everyone knows they’ve got nothing to do with it.
Boortz is the idiot.
Oh yeah, Boortz was bashing the Tea Party movement less than 2 months ago until he figured he could sell some of his Fair Tax books to them, then he jumped on the Tea Party wagon.
Hey Boortz, guess what? It’s the same people who are involved in the Tea Parties who are also looking for some transparency on the birth certificate issue.
>>My neighbor has a beagle that barks all the time at everything and everyone. Its practically impossible to ignore him.<<
Touché!
Ouch, the truth hurts. Wouldn’t want to be disliked by the cool kids, oh noooooooooo. LOL!
The constitutional crisis that would occur, possible riots, and a jar to their very core that someone actually usurped their way into the office of POTUS -- it's too much to fathom for them. Heck, it is a big shock, and maybe they're not prepared for it, thus their reaction of trying to brush it off as "just nuts".
Other conservatives don't give a whit about what the media thinks - but they sure as heck they care about what the American people think.
Right now Republicans & conservatives are trying to get across the message to voters that this health care bill, Obama's obscene debt creation, his reckless foreign policy and his wholesale takeover of the private economy are bad for the country now & bad for the future of this republic.
Just after the details of Obama's death care bill was leaked out of Congress & Obama stuck his racist nose in the Gates affair, his ratings started heading into the toilet. Rasmussen had his approval index at 13, if I recall correctly.
Like clockwork, the MSM trotted out the birther issue from the bottom of the pile & back up to the front of the page again to show Americans just how loonily gullible all those who are opposed to this President's governing policies really are.
The Obama shills in the MSM are using birthers to discredit the entire conservative agenda with the very people whose support we need to counter this POTUS' ambitions to turn tis nation into an Alinsky-style Banana Republic, don't you see that?
And who can blame them? The fact is, it's proven repeatedly to be a quite effective gambit to distract the American people from Obama's anti-american, anti-capitalist agenda: as of this morning, his index is back up to seven.
And don't you know, next time Barack Obama gets in a PR fix, another Birth Certificate from God knows where will be sure to mysteriously land on Orly Taitz' desk so that birthers can put on yet another sectacle of what the rest of the country will surely view as their hyperpartisan gullibility yet again. Like clockwork.
It's not in his best interest nor the best interest of his Alinskesque agenda to produce it right now as long as he can use the Birthers & all of their mysterious foreign Birth Certificates of dubious provenance to make all of his opposition look stupid, unserious and not worthy of the American people's trust on other issues.
>>> Boortz is the idiot.
Based on things I’ve heard him say on the radio,
I’m not sure he’s a believer in God.
That makes him a fool as well.
Why does Neal Boortz think something so fundamentally Constitutional is meaningless? Is being a natural born citizen a requirement (in Boortz’ mind) or not?
No matter the outcome, is this the period in time in our nation’s history where we go from being a nation of laws to a nation of men? After all, Obama brought his Chicago thuggish pay to play system with him to Chicago.
This does remind me of the Clinton years where every violation was treated with a “so what” and if you pointed out the Constitution and the laws broken you’d get a “who cares” for a follow up. Last night, Bill O’Reilly basically said “nobody cares” when Chris Ruddy mentioned all the other documents (in addition to the birth certificate) that Obama hasn’t released. I didn’t know the law and knowledge was based on uninformed people “caring”???
Speaking as one, I gotta admit a lot of ‘em (us) are. Screaming “hoax!” or “proof!” on sight at everything relevant, pronouncing authoritative declarations of malice at every easily & rationally explained tidbit (”the pixels are wrong!” “he’s a laundry detergent!” “I found the template! (which is radically different)” etc.), and generally frothing at the mouth over everything BC-related, yes an awful lot of “birthers” are indistinguishable from “truthers” and other conspiracy-theory twits.
That’s not to say there isn’t a legitimate question, which is prompting legitimate research and legitimate conclusions.
Unfortunately, there is so much mindless hysteria swarming the subject that the truth is being suffocated by the pile-on of raging twits ... and this mess is (A) making the Right look bad, and (B) is being spun to BHO’s advantage. At this rate he’ll never release his long-form BC - not because there’s anything wrong with it, but because not doing so is politically advantageous to confounding his enemies a la Sun-Tzu.
People are paying attention because of morbid curiosity and the pleasure of justified annoyance. Best thing the Left can do is shine spotlights on the issue, obfuscated by impassioned believers, grossing everyone out until nobody wants to hear any more about it - so that when/if proof is found, nobody will care.
I want to see the Kenyan BC too. I want it proved. I also want everyone who doesn’t understand the details to shut the he11 up and quit blathering on about what they plainly don’t know.
If there was lets say a 1 or 2 million dollar donation sitting out there and the caveat was that the donation could only be completed in the name of the doctor that birthed Obama and the media actually picked up on the fact that the White House was refusing to release the name of the doctor the donation could not be made.
Obama would be blocking that money from going to the Childrens ward and effectively people will say HUH? why would he do that? Playing politicis with the well being of children?
What other conservatives are saying is: yes, we don't know who this guy is or where he came from, but we need to pick our battles wisely now in order to prevent this President who, like it or not, is sitting in that Oval Office right now, from doing as much damage to our country as he would prefer.
Because they're just now rounding second base. First, you ignore them. Second, you ridicule them. Third, you fight them. Home Plate, you agree with them.
Boortz has long maintained that the gay and abortion discussions devolve rapidly into heated arguments, don’t change anyone’s minds, and are not entertaining for radio.
And I’d pretty much agree.
Same with Rush and I don’t think he is prochoice or progay.
Sounds good. Good luck getting the money up front.
A few of the posters here have wondered why some conservatives are bashing the so called “birthers” and a handful of posters here have snidely referred to conservatives bashing birthers as the “smart ones”.
Hey, when Obama was born, is it true or false that there were four ways to obtain a Cert. of Live Birth, right? And isn’t it true that all one of the four ways was simply for someone (anyone) to call in to the authorizing agency and simply report a birth at home with no verification?
You see, if Boortz was principaled and not just narcissistic (which a lot of libertarians actuall are - even though I certainly lean libertarian), then why doesn’t he tell us the important verified facts that he possesses and even collect on the $100,000 reward that is floating out there for anyone who can prove Obama was truly born in Hawaii. I think Neal Boortz is actually just a showman putting on a fun show.
Rush Limbaugh is on record asking about the birth certificate on his show.
We “birthers” just want to know the truth. Show us the truth (and that does not mean referring to the COLB) and we’ll be happy.
I could easily take the attitude "I don't care what the media and those gutless moderates and independents think of me", but I'm not running for office and so it doesn't affect me.
On the other hand if I'm Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, or Tim Pawlenty and I need these independent and moderate swing voters and decent media coverage to win the Presidential election in 2012, then it matters very much what these voters and the media think of me, to a point, because if they think I'm a far out conspiracy believer with no serious agenda to move this country away from Obama and his disastrous policies I'll lose and Obama will have four more years to wreck this country.
Now I'm not saying we sell out our principals and bow to the media like John McCain and Lindsey Graham unfortunately enjoy doing, because like it or not the media will never like or be the friend of conservatives. What we do need to do though is present a clear common sense conservative agenda to the voters the way Reagan did because that's how we win elections and advance the conservative movement.
“FREE THE LONG FORM!”
I guess he put his stake in the ground. Very endearing to his audience.
I don’t get to listen to Neil but have enjoyed his website.
Please add me to your ping list for an update.
I am sure Neil will be taken flak and have a response.
