Doctors pronounce death when their patient ceases brain activity and in that sense, I suppose we could say the GOP in California died years ago. But, in this bizarre world of politics technical death has a whole other half-life. We know dead people often vote and brain-dead legislators do too! No surprise there. And these brain dead politicians are frequently re-elected! We also know that dead beats live off your tax dollars. Yes, the dead are prolific partakers in California politics. If you consider these folks often join forces with those I call mouth-breathers, (they resemble the walking dead) then by their sheer force of numbers they control everything because the conservative is simply overwhelmed.
Die hard Republicans have been loath to admit this ugly truth. But, enough of you know their party is going the way of the Wooly Mammoth. Hey, maybe this should be the new symbol instead of the African elephant, it's certainly more appropriate given the times.
Polls show in the 1970's that fully 51% or more of all voters strongly opposed abortion, but by the early 2000's over 70% supported a mother's choice, as opposed to a right to life. There's that death thing again, which may explain in part why the right considers California a dying state. We certainly have our share of aborted babies.

Dead?? Heck, brain dead and seriously decayed would be a more colorful description, IMHO.
Need to have all the Democrats challenged at all times and the sucky Republicans we don't like need to be challenged by Conservatives with talent in the primaries IMO.

In California, the GOP BP is 40 over 20 and will soon be in a hospice.
The GOP thought they could "reach out" to voters who hate them - but they hate the GOP anyway because those voters want "FREE STUFF!"

Regardless, the national GOP is once again missing out on a golden opportunity to illustrate the end results of runaway liberalism as demonstrated by California’s failure. The usual, gutless, ineffective, inane attempt to point out the obvious. So as usual, our side will have all the facts on our side, all the evidence on our side, but still continue to lose the issues because of gutlessness by our ‘leadership’.
Yep. I am a born and raised Californian. I've lived in the Central Valley and in the SF Bay Area. It irks me the crap I have to live through. As my profile states, my vote means squat, both in this state and nationally.
And before anyone suggests moving out of the state, why should I? Why should liberals have a monopoly on the wonderful weather we have in this state? I've been around the country enough on business and vacation to know that there are few places I would even consider moving to in comparison to California.
As soon as our daughter graduates from high school in two years, we will likely move to a more conservative area of the state. I can't believe how liberal Silicon Valley has become in the 27 years I have been here.

California...esp So Cal, is a minority quasi underdeveloped country with a european business class. It is a ticking time bomb that is about to blow. The Hispanics have out birthed and immigrated the europeans and will soon dominate the entire state. They bring with them 3rd world socialist world views that will wreck the business class.
All of this is a foreshadowing of the USA at large.

Interesting you should mention San Diego. We just returned from a week's vacation in San Diego, my first time there. We liked it a lot, and we did talk about possibly moving there in a few years. Housing there is cheaper (relatively) compared to where we live in the Bay Area, so making such a move would also be a good one financially.
Republican Party is dead in Maryland too. No consultation with voters, no leadership, no voice.
+1 I’m FIFTH Generation Californian. Should I abandon ship in a time of need? I don’t think so. That sounds more like Susan and Tim threatening to bolt to Canada before W was re-elected (as if!) I’d rather live in California - for all its flaws - than most anywhere else, not to mention I like my job. As Dorothy used to say, “there’s no place like home”
Is GOP dead in California? Well certainly the brand is tarnished. I don’t think anyone can disagree with that. It is the result of discarding the principles that got RR and Deukmejian elected, and later Newt’s takeover of Congress.
There is certainly room for a conservative alternative in California. The libs have made a mess of the state and their ultra-low approval ratings are a reflection. There is also reason to hope that a new non-partisan redistricting commission will form more competitive legislative districts following the next census (they can’t get much less competitive right now). And voters have slammed the door on libs most recent attempt to raise taxes (just 2 months ago!) The Guvernator has also developed some backbone...
So dead, well not yet. But it is a party that requires strong leadership and strong ideas. Saying “no” to tax hikes is a noble and wise position, but it doesn’t make for a compelling election platform. The GOP caucus would be wise to take a page from Newt’s playbook. The time is right.
