The Senate Finance Committee will drop a controversial provision on consultations for end-of-life care from its proposed healthcare bill, its top Republican member said Thursday.
The committee, which has worked on putting together a bipartisan healthcare reform bill, will drop the controversial provision after being derided as "death panels" to encourage euthanasia by conservatives.
"On the Finance Committee, we are working very hard to avoid unintended consequences by methodically working through the complexities of all of these issues and policy options," Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said in a statement. "We dropped end-of-life provisions from consideration entirely because of the way they could be misinterpreted and implemented incorrectly."

I am not that sure how good doctors are about bringing up these issues if the patient does not raise them. For people with limited education or who are in denial about the seriousness of their situation, they might not do that.
Does anyone out here have some real life experience with how well this is accomplished under current conditions?
this is just one bill. There are 3 more in the Senate which are supposedly ready for release.

Putting this on the doctor essentially forces doctors to practice medicine and law.
No more Judge Greers or Michael Schiavo's, ACLU's, Right to Die, Atheists of Florida, George Felos, deceased Sen. Jim King and other RINOS and dems like Barack Obama hvg to vote or the Supremes either. The courts won't kill any more except in criminal cases.
Doctors will be the deciders/counselors. Keeping end of life counseling out of the courts keeps it behind closed doors and it's faster.
The health experts only pay doctors who comply and doctors have to survive. This is not over. It's going under the radar.

That’s how I see it even though Obama claimed the “end of life” provision was never end the bill.
Doesn’t matter. We have to be very careful when the bill goes to Conference...in order to make sure they don’t sneak something in.
My mother has seen many different doctors in the last 8 yrs. and nearly all of them have asked if she has a living will. No need for BIG BROTHER to mandate anything.
The IRS doesn’t belong in the mix. They could electronically rob a person’s bank accounts “free health care?” and then deny them treatment.
The problem is that you think that more government force in health care could possibly be a good thing. And I’ll say it again: Every single government program gets bigger and worse. Always. This will just be a foot in the door. A “decent bill”? That would be acceptable to Democrat congress? To Obama? Surely you jest.

However, under Obamacare, some bureaucrat may have something else in mind and lose or void all paperwork. With Zeke and the other mad scientists in the Obama admin, they're very clear about personhood and they don't include every citizen in their ideologies.

The bill is bad, but let’s not say things that aren’t true.

Private insurance will start disappearing mandatorily in 2013.
Except for members of congress, they and only they will be able to keep their excellent health care.

The problem is that even if THIS committee drops it, if ANYTHING passes from both the Senate and the House, the committee that meets to get everything the same between the bills will simply ADD IT BACK IN!!!
Just say NO! Until they do tort reform, anything they do to the health care system is a sham and a power grab!!!

Well, this is a SMALL bit of good news — but they should be throwing the WHOLE 1,000+ pages of it in the trash! If we can attack it bit by bit though perhaps we will ultimately have the same outcome and it won’t go through at all (and they won’t try again till 2010 hopefully).
