OKLAHOMA CITY – Norman resident and country superstar Toby Keith is back on the charts with a new “politically-charged video,” “American Ride,” that was released last Friday on country music video channel CMT and is being called by some critics as “equal-opportunity satire” This is demonstrated by showing a “tidal wave” of illegal aliens coming across the US-Mexico border or Barack Obama as a tool of the bankers or George W. Bush giving Pat Robertson a piggy-back ride. Excellent!.

With it’s martial feel and driving fiddles, Jib-Jab-styled Americana imagery and stunning visuals that keep you wanting more, it’s a more traditional-sounding song musically, with Keith singing that despite all the problems in the country, this “American ride” is a helluva lot of fun, at least while it lasts.

And as a conservative Democrat, Toby Keith is a classic Oklahoma voter. While the state is strongly Republican, he represents, in this video, what a lot of Americans, particularly in the Heartland, are beginning to feel.

At his website www.tobykeith.com, Keith explained that “I’m a ‘right-wrong guy,’ not a ‘right-left guy,’ and this video shows that. We took shots at everyone.”

And I would argue that “American Ride,” an animated video directed by Michael Salamon, is Keith’s most overtly politically-oriented video since 2002’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American).”

It is good to see Toby Keith remaining politically and culturally relevant while still producing terrific country-pop that stays in your head. Just note his last big hit, “God Love Her,” or 2006’s “A Little Too Late.”

Reports say that “American Ride” is the fastest-rising songs of his career, with it being the most added song this week according to country music radio analysts.

Now, let’s hope Toby Keith will schedule a full-fledged concert here in the Sooner State. He is currently on tour with Trace Adkins on his “America’s Toughest Tour.”

The new album American Ride is scheduled for release on Oct. 13 on his Showdog Nashville record label.

So...mindless and forgettable paint-by-number three-chord monotony with a leavening of Uhmerikan plastic patriotism is terrific country-pop? Dwight Yoakam can only shake his head and wonder.

I was just going to comment on that.

He doesn’t put any other news logo on the pundits screens, but made it a point to put “Faux News” on there.

Keith is about as much Dem as me. He was an ardent Bush backer. And opposed Obama. Hangs out with Nugent.

It’s all PR spin, and political/career opportunism, that he’s a “registered Dem.”

All OKies over 40 are/were conservative Dems. They just vote REPUB all the time.

I don't know about that, however the animation reminded me of South Park. Not bad work overall.

He is the only one I know of with a national audience that correctly calls Obama a Goldman Sachs tool, the “real” patriots seem to always forget that.

Definitely hits the left far more than the right. Not even close.

Slams global warming, tort lawyers, obama bailouts, government stealing property, ACLU banning Christmas carols, Hollywood morons, Obama’s pals (castro, chavez), etc.

Sweet! Toby Keith knows how to say it. If he had never let his views known it would be one thing, but his songs, including “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” have always shown where he stood.

To be honest, not sure if HE used the tanning salon much, or was just taking a woman there, and waiting for her.

Toby Keith was in Iraq entertaining our Troops more than any other entertainer I can remember.

I burned a DVD of his performance in Baghdad during the CMA’s when he broadcasted live, included some of his MTV videos and pics that the guys and gals sent to me. Must have burned more than 2,000.

Got so many thank yous for our brave men and women I was humbled.

The Troops love Toby Keith and so do I.

God Bless Toby and God Bless America.

Heard him say in an interview back awhile ago, he is no longer a registered Dem. Changed to Independent...didn't like the way the Dem's were going and slamming the military....
